‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Gives Us A Gay Wedding

The internet is calling it the Coliver Wedding, and it was every bit as sweet and as memorable as you would want your own wedding to go.

The ABC hit show, How To Get Away With Murder, is in its fifth season, and just signed off his winter finale on Thursday, November 15. And in the episode, titled ‘I Want To Love You Until The Day I Die’, everybody’s favorite brooding former bad boy, Connor and his boyfriend, Oliver, finally got married. In a church. A ceremony that was so normal, it momentarily had Connor freaked out.

Since 2015, Connor and Oliver have been one of the most prominent same-sex couples on network television. In their run on How to Get Away With Murder, they have also made history; Oliver received an HIV diagnosis, making him and Connor a rare depiction of a serodiscordant relationship.

The series, created by gay writer Peter Nowalk and produced by Shonda Rhimes, stars Viola Davis as a cutthroat law professor and her legal team of students, including Connor. It has broken boundaries in bringing portrayals of gay sex and sexuality to the airwaves, such as its infamous rimming scene.

The winter finale also ties in sorrow with the celebration, as the identity of the murder victim that has bene teased all season long was finally revealed. But that notwithstanding, there was such a beautiful heart-warming moment to be had from watching the couples exchange their vows and pledge their love for each other.

“Connor, as I stand here with you, I realize that my dream … was you,” Oliver pledged to Connor.

“I wanna love you until the day that I die… I want a long, boring, normal life because it’s with you,” Connor pledged to Oliver.

Honestly, that finale fell flat on its face. It was always an OMG moment with HTGAWM finales but this season was not well thought out. The wedding was beautiful though but the plot fell short of expectation .
