‘How to Get Away with Murder’ star Jack Falahee talks about sexuality following Trump win
Jack Falahee, who plays a gay character in How to Get Away with Murder, had until recently refused to talk about his own sexual orientation. Falahee had said he shouldn’t need to talk about his private life, saying he was proud to play a gay character and that it shouldn’t matter who he sleeps with off screen.
He said he did so in order to “dismantle the closet”.
But now the star, who plays a gay man in a serodischordant relationship on the show, has opened up.
Confirming he is straight, Falahee said he wanted to be a strong ally for the LGBT+ community.
In a lengthy Twitter post, he said: “In the past I’ve declined to discuss my own sexuality in an attempt to try and dismantle the closet. Opponents to my ambiguous answers to questions surrounding my sexuality argued the importance of visibility. Ultimately, I think that my stance has been unhelpful in the fight for equality. I feel that I’ve sacrificed my ability to support the community for a more theoretical discussion about sexuality. Now more than ever, I want to offer my support to the community as an ally.”
He adds that he has a gay friend who sat crying under a table as it became clear that it was a Trump win. Falahee says his friend “couldn’t face the reality of the next four years”.

November 18, 07:53My heart just shattered to pieces! I was so sure about this guy! *Weeping for my broken gaydar*
On a more serious note, his decision not to clarify his straightness (until now) is such a laudable one. It enforces the notion that sexual orientation can, and should, be taken for granted. For this, I decide not to quit crushing on this man.

He should be given Best Actor for the most convincing straight-gay performance. Well Jack, thanks for telling us. Thanks for sparing me more heart aches. Thanks for the broken heart! ?
Before I stomp off, good a thing you plan on doing. Now bye forever! ????

November 19, 03:38It’s stunning how so well he plays his role, to be able to make me believe he’s actually gay. Just like Eric Stonestreet plays Cam in Modern Family. I was also shocked when I learned he’s not gay. These people sha.
