James Bond Can Never Be Gay, Says Roger Moore

James Bond could never be gay, says former Bond actor Roger Moore.

“It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist, it is simply about being true to the character,” Moore told the Daily Mail on Sunday. “I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond,” he said. “But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote.”

With the current Bond, Daniel Craig, saying he’s leaving the part, talk of who takes on the iconic role next is gearing up. Maybe it could be played by a woman, a black man, or the character could be a gay man.

Craig was asked for his take by Sky News this month and gave a much different answer than Moore. “Anything’s possible,” he said. “You can do anything as long as it’s credible and it works. It doesn’t matter.”

Craig had given the opposite answer in 2012, saying that Bond “isn’t gay.” He was promoting Skyfall at the time, which had a bisexual villain.

Former Bond, Pierce Brosnan, was asked by DETAILS in August if he could picture a gay 007.

“Why not?” Brosnan had said, before imagining reasons it probably won’t happen anytime soon. “Actually, I don’t know how it would work. I don’t think Barbara [Broccoli, the James Bond producer] would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing.”

As an aside, the whole conversation seems a little off. Maybe all these reporters intend to ask whether Bond could be bisexual, rather than suddenly gay.

Still, like many others have suggested (and the likes of Moore have said wouldn’t work), Brosnan leaned toward starting with a black man as Bond.

“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond,” he told DETAILS. “Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence.”

My favourite bond of all time is Pierce Brosnan. Just love the guy so much. And like a true irish man, he’s down to earth, says what he means and (in my mind’s eye) is totally packing down there! Lol

IMO,Connery still proves to be the best Bond so far.Followed closely by Brosnan.Moore tried, but there just was something too stiff, too English about him.

The obsession to make or turn everything ever done str8 to gay stuff.. Is a tad nauseating. I’m getting tired of it. We want Gay cartoons, Gay Series, Gay video games now Gay bond. Gay this, Gay that. Everything must be Gay. It’s tiring. Almost like we are on a mission to make the world a Gay-themed-feast-for-all.
We need to take a chill pill on all the propaganda.

Thats true cos am really not sure i will want my younger ones including various younger cousins to get exposed to seeing two guys or girls kissing and making out so early in life.Which with the access to laptops, phones and internet is so easy to do i mean my younger sis&bro 19 and 21 respectably i still censor the movies they take frm my lappy cos of this kind of situation i even refuse to allow them watch empire super awks…..Let it be toned down a bit pls!

I never knew you were this old oooo..So your younger sister and brother are 19 and 21…who would have thought!!!

        Oops, I forgot…you are a lawyer.

Anyway, everything you just typed is flawed. I don’t even know where to start from. As far as they are not watching porn, I don’t think watching a gay themed programme would make anyone gay; the least it can do is to change their perception about homosexuality which is what we are all fighting for. My elder sister told me that while watching Empire she felt pity for Jamal and started seeing homosexuality as something that one shouldn’t be afraid of.

Lol pls oh am not that old besides u fail to get my point i dont mean watching it will influence their sexual orientation, who am i kidding they could probably get it somewhere else,i know what age i started watching porn during the days of vhs player and reading all those soft porn magz like tickles. My own thing is that i cant give them any gay themed movie to watch intentionally it will be super awkward. With my elder sis that one there is no filter infact i recommend movies to her right frm the period of glee till date including empire and the haves and have nots by Tyler Perry. She loves Kurt in glee so much.

Pinky i repeat this is not an anti gay comment or some sort of homophobia dont get me wrong, for me its just awkward to watch or discuss any gay themed movie with my younger ones in whatever manner. If i hear them making homophobic comments about someone of cos i will correct them and make them understand one or two things but i cant watch any movie with two guys or ladies kissing it will be very uncomfortable for me.With sum1 older like my sister thats fine sum1 as old as my mum super uncomfortable.Thats just how i feel and thats my opinion

I can’t even begin 2 correct u cos ur confused on ur stand. In order not 2 sound insulting, I’d just advice u take a chill pill, sit back and re-read all u have written…den we can have a word.

My God can u guys let this go?what dont u understand here exactly?who is talking about getting exposed as gay through watching film together?or them watching gay themed movie influencing them to become gay?pls read it again i said am just not comfortable watching it together with them how is that difficult to understand?btw my mum knows am gay but we dont discuss it any longer we just pretend everything is fine.So this isnt anything about trying to camouflag or anything u clearly missed the part where i said am only comfy watching and talking about such movies with my immediate elder sis who doesnt even know about my sexuality which is just btw my mum and i.Am done abeg.

Your comment would only make sense if you’re uncomfortable with them watching a man and a woman kiss as well. If not, then you’re obsessed with imprinting heteronormative relationships on them and trust me, it’s not from TV shows that people become gay.

The other day someone said they agree with DSTV banning I am Jazz because they don’t want their children to be influenced into being trans and this is the same flawed reasoning. You should allow your siblings to see such things at least on occasion so they understand that it is present in the world. If I live in the North and hide every newspaper clipping about Boko Haram and bombings from my kids, they will be shocked the day they hear by accident that there is such a thing as terror in the North. Nigerians try to act like homosexuality is this aberration only present in the “west” but it is everywhere. The first step to helping them come to acceptance is to allow them see there’s nothing sinister and malevolent about a man loving a man.

On your side for Empire though. It is gross and poorly written so for that, kudos.

James Bond gay? Em! I don’t see why the character should be modified. It seems the gay campaign is trying too hard. If the character is changed, it will be something ‘different’ , making homosexuality seemingly different or abnormal. Let there be a new box office casting a lead gay character, that way it won’t be anything new or different.
