Kevin Hart responds to Don Lemon’s comments regarding his Oscar controversy
Gay news anchor Don Lemon used his platform on CNN to discuss the controversy surrounding Kevin Hart’s anti-LGBTI remarks. This came as part of the response to Ellen DeGeneres inviting Hart on her show and urging him to reconsider his decision to not host the Oscars, an interview that resulted into a backlash on the social media.
“Kevin, if anything, this is the time to hear other people out,” Don Lemon said on January 5. “I don’t see any meaningful outreach to the LGBT community … Someone like Kevin Hart, with one of the biggest megaphones in the whole world, can be a leader. He can help change homophobia in the black community.”
In what would be a response to Lemon’s statements, Hart took to Instagram to suggest that he isn’t being given a chance to learn from his mistakes.
In a post that listed the learning curve of professionals like basketballers, teachers and architects, Kevin Hart captioned: “When did we get to the point where we forgot that we all learn, then we all have the ability to grow and with that growth comes a wealth of knowledge. You can’t change without a [sic] understanding of what GROWTH means.”
Hart has decided not to reemerge as the Oscars host for 2019. According to Deadline, Hart believes this controversy surrounding him would only serve as a distraction from the event.
