Lessons Learned From ‘She Called Me Woman’ (Entry 13)

LESSON 13

From the chapter, ‘When I Die, I Just Want To Be Remembered’, PD has this to say:

“I want to tell other queer people to be open to life and the experiences of life. To not let themselves be boxed up by religion. Explore. Always have an open mind. Don’t judge anybody. If people judge you, it is their problem. But you do not judge. Live life. That is what I tell people. Whatever you do, live!”

I read this passage and I thought about the hashtag that Kenny Brandmuse has made famous – #Live.

It should be evident in the big things you do and the little things as well: that you are living as you have dictated and not entirely as society has instructed.

I may be in the closet. I may be in Nigeria where who I am is criminalised.
But I always remind myself to make the effort to live each day as authentically as I can. Kito Diaries helps with that reminder.
