MEETING HIM

MEETING HIM

I was about to walk into the club, a little drunk already. I had been dragged through a fun weekend with the craziest bunch. It had been endless drinking and getting baked. Tonight was the last night and I was going to be sober tomorrow, finally. It was grand.

Despite my protestation against going drinking again, here we were, going drinking.

“Don’t complain when I’m a complete bore all night long,” I said, looked straight at everyone.

They all ignored me as we trooped forward and Alicia shoved me forward through the club’s entrance.

“Cut it out,” I said with half-hearted sternness.

She’d been tied to her boyfriend, Ayobami for most of the weekend. I didn’t like him much but he seemed to think I was his ‘bruh’.

“Yeah, I’m sure you’d be a lot more fun if one of your boyfriends was here to loosen you up,” Chike hollered through the noise of music in the dimly-lit room.

They all snickered.

“Ha-ha. Let’s laugh at the single guy, shall we?” I sneered. “I will have you know that I’m just taking a break. I did not swear off boys.” I chuckled at this. “That’s impossible. It’s just a break and all this trotting around isn’t helping.”

My friends sniggered again.

“Alright. Enough of that, guys. Come here, you monkey.” My best friend Alex pulled me into his arms while loud music invaded my ears.

Several minutes later, I was moving on my seat, tapping my feet to a new favorite song while everyone else was dancing or huddled together in corners. I was twirling my drink while conversing with Alicia when suddenly I noticed him. He was gawking at me. I turned my head to him, squinting my eyes at him to establish his identity. I hadn’t met him before, I quickly realized. But he was looking at me so intensely that I felt as though my body was being touched with his eyes. Then I noticed his attitude, so relaxed, so confident. He was so handsome. I shall not lie and say I wasn’t melting under the heat of his gaze. It was hard to breathe. I was transfixed by the stranger’s stare, entranced by his attention.

“What’s happening?” Alicia said to me over the music.

“Wha-what?” I stuttered my response, her voice drawing me out of my daze.

“You’re both staring.” Her voice was laced with amusement.

“No, I’m not. He is.” I looked at him one last time and looked away, turning my head firmly away from him.

“Maybe you should go say hi.” Alicia was definitely amused. A smile was fighting to gain supremacy on her face. She could tell I was flustered.

“Uh, have you met me?” I said, arching my brows at her. “Hell No. I’m not about to go say hi to a stranger.”

“What if the stranger comes to say hi instead?”

Where did that come from? Startled, I whirled around, looking up to see him standing before our table and smirking. He had a glass of drink in his hand. The eye-touchy stranger was here, so close. His face loomed before me, proving my earlier assessment wrong. I did know him. The face struck me as one I knew and didn’t know at the same time. Oh perhaps I really didn’t know him, and he simply had one of those faces. He was dressed so casually, too ordinarily for a club, as if on purpose.

“Did the stranger get an invitation here?” I replied after my microsecond observance of him. I didn’t even know I was smiling back at him.

His demeanor settled and he had on a full-fledged grin now. “I was definitely waiting for one.”

“You might have waited a very long time then.”

And then we just stared at each other – him, with a big smile on his face, and I stuck between puzzled and amused by him. Something about him kept screaming ‘FAMILIAR’.

“Hi! I’m Alicia,” my nosy friend cut in, “and this here is Abrams. What’s your name?”

“Hello Alicia. You can call me BD.” He beamed at Alicia and said, “Mind if I borrow Abrams for a while?”

“Oh. Yeah, I can’t, sorry,” I hastily cut in before Alicia would hand me over. “I have friends around. I don’t want to leave them.”

“Oh, but we don’t mind,” the traitor interjected.

I turned a ‘shut up your mouth’ scowl to her. She smiled unrepentantly and made shooing gestures with her hand. “Go on, go have fun with BD.”

“Oh sure, mum,” I retorted with narrowed eyes at her.

When I rose to stand beside the gorgeous BD, I smiled to hide how uncertain I was with being with him.

“You have such a disarming smile,” he remarked as soon as we’d moved to another corner of the room.

“Well, that’s an interesting thing to say.”

“It’s true. You walked in here with that amazing smile and I got thrown off by it. I’m still dizzy with its effect.” He stared at me like he was evaluating my features, appraising some merchandize.

I shook my head and twirled my drink.

“Did I say something wrong?” He raised an eyebrow at me, that smirk was still on his face. That absurdly familiar face.

“Let’s say I’m fighting the urge to roll my eyes,” I replied.

He threw his head back in laughter. I stopped to look at him again. His face – it was just a face I had to have seen somewhere. Plus, his smile might be amazing, but that laugh could be the death of me.

I continued brazenly. “What do you want?”

“You,” he said simply. “It’d have been stupid of me to not come to talk to you.”

“Hmm. That’s direct.”

“A good thing or not?”

“Not a bad thing.”

“Good points for me then.” He chuckled.

We talked (he talked, I just laughed a lot) some more, until I had drank so much and we were flirting furiously now.

“I have to go to the restroom,” I said and proceeded to get there without falling over.

Meeting BD was a thrill. I hadn’t wanted to be here, at a club, when I could be engaging in better activities like sleeping. I was a little dizzy, definitely high, and this hot guy was stirring my insides. Or maybe it was the alcohol, but I felt so hot. I was standing, staring at my reflection in the restroom mirror, when BD walked in. A second later, he had his lips on my neck. My tight jeans dropped down my legs, and I could hear our moans of pleasure intermingled as he thrust forward and I rode backward to meet him.

Yes, not my proudest moment, but this hot guy was H.O.T. And damn! I could not resist. Sue me.

Several moans and a couple of orgasms later, I was dressed and headed out of the restroom.

I bumped into Alex right outside the door.

“I saw you coming this way a long while ago,” he said. “This is like the longest bathroom break.”

Just then, BD walked out and winked at me. I felt heat rise in my face, especially as Alex caught on.

“Jeez! Slut! How does the one who didn’t want to be here get the hot fuck.” He sighed and leaned against the wall. Loud music blared around us.

“Shut up!” I covered my face, laughing.

“Why does he look familiar though?” Alex stated, looking deep in thought. But he was too drunk to figure out whatever he was trying to.

The next morning, I woke up in our hotel room, with Alex draped over the bed next to me like a dead fish. I stumbled to the bathroom, already welcoming my hangover. I remembered hugging BD goodbye and marking what we’d had as a GREAT one night stand. I chuckled at myself, and was trying to remove my jeans when a card dropped out of one of the pockets.

I picked it up and there it was:

I HAD FUN. I HOPE YOU CALL. XOXO!

I turned the card to the front and stared at the name. The shock hit me like a blow to my solar plexus as I recognized his name. His famous name! The lights finally flicked on. How the hell did I not recognize him? I knew who hot guy was. In fact, you know who hot guy is! ‘BD’ suddenly made so much sense.

My phone buzzed. It was Alicia with lots of ‘shocked face’ emojis. Her messages followed immediately after: OMG!!!! OMG!!!!!! THE GUY LAST NIGHT!!! THAT’S –

Nothing could wipe the grin off my face. Well, except the future as I considered the words: I HOPE YOU CALL.

If he isnt wearing some dark glasses and if you are half drunk then yes, your chances of recognizing him are limited

Yes o. If he doesn’t put on his shades in enclosed places, one might be very tempted to think it isn’t him.

I was at Slot’s office in Owerri last December. Dbanj was named the company’s ambassador. So he came for a show in owerri and stopped by at Slot for photos. He was with Olu Maintain. I was their to price phone charger. Na so people begin scamper for pishures. He looked nothing like on TV. And with the shades on, I couldn’t have told it was him. Olu Maintain was just as dark as last night. I was more interested in a sales guy attending to me.

Is this in the ‘fiction’ category? Because it sounds very much like a prologue to a coming series.

It’s not in the Fiction category. It’s in the About Us category. That makes it nonfictional.
