Much Ado About Linda Ikeji

IMG_20151020_045052So, blog queen, Linda Ikeji has been trending all over the Nigerian blogosphere over her acquisition of a new home in the Lagos high-brow, Banana Island neighbourhood. Such hackneyed phrases like ‘finding a husband’ and ‘vanity upon vanity’ have made the rounds in the storm raging against her. And because everybody is talking about it, I’d like to hear your thoughts, oh good KDians, on the matter.

African mentality is that everyone must not only get married but stay married, at what ever cost.

I was once in a lift in federal secretariat and a man said to the lift operator that her going back to school is a waste of time cos the only degree that necessary for women is “MRS”. And suprisingly everyone chuckled at this…except me of cos.

Honestly when (if) I have kids, I will raise them to be completely and utterly independent. And there is absolutely nothing wrong wanting to spend your life focussed on something else other than marriage!

Its the African mentality that has made a lot of people live in perpetual nightmare. That combined with our nature of wanting our fellow man to also suffer what we are suffering

I got pissed when she said she will leave the house when she gets married. She worked hard for that money! Nobody should deprive her of the satisfaction that comes with it.

Humans are insatiable Biko … Nothing anyone does is ever enough or beyond criticism.

If Linda listens to them and marries someone (something I doubt she would do) … They will still find fault in the union… Or expect her to give birth in 3months.

Funny thing is,those people who keep “advising” her to get married aren’t really doing it out of love; they just keep saying it cos they feel it’s something that’ll hurt her feelings (and we humans in general, and Nigerians in particular, love to hurt others, cos a decrease in their happiness gives us some sort of weird joy in our hearts). The day she finally gets married, those ppl that keep saying “pls go and marry” will be so disappointed that she actually found a husband. People can be so disgusting…

We have this horrid mentality that a woman is only accomplished if she is married with children. And whats sad is that it’s our generation, youths like You and I that think this way, which just shows that Nigeria has a long way to go. Our mind set for the most part is so myopic and stagnant. I don’t know whats to blame for this, Nollywood, our parents, Nigerian songs, our churches? I think its a combination of all of that.

I’m happy for Linda! Am I a fan of the house? Nope. Do I think it is overpriced? Yes, but I’m happy for the bitch. And one day I hope I become even more successful!

THIS WAS THE ONLY SENSIBLE COMMENT I READ ON ‘THE VANGUARD’

whatever you see Linda acquire today is merely a product of the seed she sowed some years ago when she started blogging in Nigeria. the need for blogging was born out of her interest and ideas. some people may now want to go into blogging because Linda is making it there. but let me take a moment to show some kindness to the folks who think that blindness is a disease that affects the eyes alone, that the power to acquire your own 600 million naira mansion tomorrow lies withing you. you are just not considering exploring your inner self. there is an idea in you that is meant to create a significant turning point in your life but because you are so busy with girls on high heels, so busy with pornography, so busy with sleeping and snoring all night. so busy playing games, so busy partying, so busy talking and doing nothing, you become blind to the secret of success that you possess. enough talk o jare. get up from that bed. work more and sleeps less after all, the dead sleeps forever. have a nice day ahead

I was dumbfounded whn I saw some heart-shattering trolls abt her getting a husband instead of making money! It’s so funny how people (especially on social media) quickly point out the “percieved wrong” in a successful persons’ life whn dey made NOTHING outta theirs. Auntie Linda ayam so happy 4 U and may God bless Ur hustle

I felt inspired after reading it. I had to rethink about the steps I’m taking in my life. Honestly, thats the kind of life I want.
When I heard she bought a house, I was like -” maybe its somewhere in Lekki”(Everyone buys one there these days), but then I heard “banana Island) ??? !!! And that was when everything changed. I mean, this lady is now playing in the leagues of Dangote and Otedola, only billionaires can afford a house in Banana island.

I’m very happy for her, she’s an inspiration to Nigerian women (most of which are lazy btw) who are waiting for men to cater to their needs. And I also like the message she had for them while shading the hoes ( you open your legs for 200k, what’s 200k? Thats the cost of one of my shoes). ????.

You go gurl!!. All the haters can go and die, you don’t need no damn husband to be happy.

    Firstly, that house is bae!
Could Nigerians for once keep their ‘since-its-not-mine’ spite to themselves and be happy 4 someborri?! We all know Linda, we all know she worked hard for that house, she worked really hard for the life she is living right now. Please o, these Nigerian people sef…do they actually know what marriage means? With her success, does she really need a husband? For kini? For kids or companionship? When she could as well adopt a whole orphanage or better still have any guy she wants with a snap of her fingers?
Marriage isn’t something that should be forced down someone’s gullet, not everyone likes the idea of waking up to one sleepy face everyday! Nigerians would use this marriage thingy to pull her down psychologically just cause they know the source of her wealth. If it was unknown, then they would have another thing to say. The envy in this country is so deeply seethed, I wonder how we would eventually grow as a nation!
    Rubbish Nigeria!

About moving out, I think why she said that is because she is moving into the house with her family, so if she does get married she would have to move out and leave the house for them.

    Way to go linda!

Linda gave everyone a kick below the belt mbok. From celebs that called her Jobless Amebo to the twins that lied about buying a N300m house at a random location here in Lagos down to the ones that go about begging fake ass celebs leaving in a rented flat in lekki for a follow back like their lives depended on it.

She broke the internet and made everyone think. Made me THINK! She really suffered mehn, puff puff and garri, now she’s arrived. And someone somewhere still thinks she needs to be married for full happiness. House and car all dressed in white, that’s enough marriage she may want. I hope she can hear you preaching and crying while lost in a room in that houze.

Not everyone needs someone in their lives to be happy and not everyone sees marriage as an accomplishment(Def not me)

Please what does Laura do again? ?

Nigerians are just hating. You can’t blame them sha. That’s what happens the world over. People hide behind their computer screens to type nonsense. When you meet them in reality, you’d realise that arguing with them is just a waste of time.

The question here is, if Linda Ikeji can do it, what’s your excuse?

Puhleeze linda owes no one an apology or an excuse. The kind of success she has now demanded sacrifices very few people are willing to make. Her priority wasn’t marriage or she would have been married. If I were linda I would continue to excel in any sphere I choose, affect and impact my world positively. And ignore people who are ignorant and have no clue where I am going. She could very well be our very own Nigerian Oprah. If she could get over being homophobic I could like her as a person but for now I just admire her guts dedication to work and verve. In other unrelated news I heard she is an alien why would she marry an earthling? Maybe she can self propagate.

My advice to Linda: gurl!!! Chill knuckle and jam booty, you’ve done exceedingly well, am challenged yet proud of you! Now you know very well what a bitter, envious and hate-filled lot Nigerians mostly are, truth is very few if any Nigerian men can handle your mind boggling success. I honestly don’t think you need a man to validate or complete you, but if you think you do, there are loads and loads and forwarded thinking and progressive minded men in other countries, with your deep pockets you cab easily have access to any corner of the globe you desire, so please do yourself a favour and find an exotic man who will truly complete and complement you for who you truly are, not a Nigerian man who will seek to downplay your talents and relegate you tl the kitchen waiting on him hand and foot. Cheers gurl!!
