Sarah Jessica Parker Hints That Samantha Jones Could Be Killed Off In ‘Sex And The City 3’
The end could be nigh for Kim Cattrall’s iconic character.
Less than a month ago, it looked like Sex and the City 3 was officially dead in the water, but Sarah Jessica Parker has just reignited hopes of a second sequel after hinting that the series could continue without co-star Kim Cattrall.
The long-awaited movie had been due to go into production last autumn, but was reportedly canned just days before the cameras were due to roll after Cattrall, who plays the show’s resident sex-pot Samantha Jones, refused to sign on.
Things got pretty acrimonious from there, as Cattrall claimed she’d never expressed interest in returning to the franchise, before twisting the knife in by saying she was “never friends” with Parker and fellow stars, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.
Parker responded to the slight on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen this week, and hinted that the characters Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte could continue on as a threesome once the dust has settled.
Asked about Cattrall’s claim that she and Parker had been no more than “colleagues” during the hit HBO show’s six-year run, Parker told Cohen: “I was just heartbroken.”
The 47-year-old went on: “I found it very upsetting. Because that’s not the way I recall our experience. It’s sad but I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience. It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives.”
Parker was then asked straight-up whether she’d consider making a version of Sex and the City 3 where Samantha had been written out or killed off.
“I think, once everybody has thoroughly experienced the grieving process, then [writer] Michael Patrick [King] can go back and ponder what he might want to do, and how he might want to proceed,” Parker replied coyly. “That’s the most clear answer I’ve given yet.”
