‘It’s Not Just About Women Anymore.’ – Sarah Jessica Parker Wants Broader Activist Movement

Sarah Jessica Parker has said that she is not a feminist – because she wants a movement including LGBT people.

The Sex and the City actress explained that she doesn’t “think it’s just women” who are fighting oppression, and that other people also need help, calling for a broader “humanist” movement.

She told Cosmopolitan: “As [playwright] Wendy Wasserstein would say, I’m a humanist. I’m enormously appreciative of the work that my mother’s generation did.

“We are the beneficiaries of a lot of disappointment, heartache, discouragement, and misunderstanding. But I see a lot of people trying to sort out their roles. People of colour, gays, lesbians, and transgenders who are carving out this space.

“I’m not spitting in the face or being lazy about what still needs to be done — but I don’t think it’s just women anymore.

“We would be so enormously powerful if it were a humanist movement.”

Jurassic World star Chris Pratt recently claimed that male celebrities need to be “objectified” more, in order to balance out sexism. The actor claimed:  “I think it’s appalling that for a long time only women were objectified, but I think if we really want to advocate for equality, it’s important to not objectify women less, but objectify men just as often as we objectify women. There are a lot of beautiful women who got careers out of it, and I’m using it to my advantage.

“At the end of the day, our bodies are objects. We’re just big bags of flesh and blood and meat and organs that God gives us to drive around.”
