There’s a Foreign Film Project that wants to document the lives of Nigerian Gay Men and Women on Camera

An international production company is looking for individuals in the Nigerian LGBT community who want to share their story in a high-end documentary.

They are looking for people with compelling personal stories in which their sexuality and love for another individual have put them in conflict with their family, religion, and friends.

Applications should be aware that this will be a long-term documentary production and will require a significant amount of time to deeply explore their lives and the conflicts they have had to face.

Interested individuals must be gay or bisexual, able to articulate eloquently in English, be in love with the same sex or have been in love with the same sex, and must have an overall compelling story about their experiences of being gay in Nigeria

And above all, there’s no anonymity associated with this project. The subject must be willing to show his face on camera. The documentary however is not intended for the Nigerian airwaves, if that is any comfort. There are reportedly already a lot of Nigerians indicating interest, but their stories only span narratives of sex and abuse. The company is more vested in stories about love and conflict.

Anybody interested should contact me via email (pantherptb@yahoo.com) for me to pass along the contact details of the production company’s point man for further enlightenment.

And do pass along the word. Perhaps there’d be more people out there, Nigerians, who want to tell their stories with their identities stamped on it.

Just saw. There’s of course no love story, ended or ongoing, that isn’t about two people. And that’s just it. It’s about him. It’s about you. Not one or the other.

This is good. It’d be great to have our voices heard, our stories told and our fears and troubles revealed.

Just like for any other project o this kind, I am concerned about the security of the people that are going to be involved in this project.

Why only English though? I think that says it’s about them and not us. We want to tell our stories to our people and not just those on the otherside. Beside, I have seen many from forgien filmmaker trying to tell our stories for the other side, and it always look too acted. Also, what is security protection and why tell the stories? Let’s remember PBS.

Azin ehn! The whole thing is juicy and all seeing as I am all for our stories being projected and consequently dealt with but the cons are weighty. What if my family members in diaspora see it?

That is why it says if you are interested… which means, you’be agreed to its policy what ever it may be, as you click accept button, then you don’t remember who would be seeing you on screen…
as many struggle on their own, that’s how their stories would have be told.
If they want to do with all LGBT Nigerian, then they wouldn’t have been specific on what they’re looking for.
