Tweet of the Day: About The Pain of Coming Out

I do not know the story of Emmanuel Sadi’s coming out (and I do so hope that one day, he’ll have overcome the pain well enough to tell the story for us here on Kito Diaries), but reading his recent tweets about how hellish his coming out was made me realise how exceptionally lucky I was with my own coming out – Bisi Alimi’s vindictive hijacking of it notwithstanding.

Check on his tweets and let us hear your opinion on coming out in the comments section.

Some of us don’t talk about the pain we tried to forget after coming out.
I was certain my mom was going to kick me out after I came out to her, because she was quiet for many many days. I’m glad we both grew up and loved each other more.

Please, be sure to have a support system, certainties to fall back on when you’re ready to come out.

Closets are choking. Take your time and chart your path if you can, before coming out to people you care about. And also understand the person(s) you’re sharing your sexuality with. People are shit and they might take for granted, the fucks you gave to share your privilege to be queer with them.

Amen @ how lucky it was to come out. I always tell folks who ask me to make sure you’re at least independent from family, financially and residence wise before you voluntarily come out. If the response is negative, the damage impact is much less.

I shudder to think what my life would have been if I was forced out of the closet screaming and kicking. It’s always painful to hear of and read of experiences like this because it’s something we can all empathise with.
