“We Did It Finally.” Newlywed Lord Mountbatten declares following the First Ever Gay Royal Family Wedding

The first ever gay royal wedding has taken place, in a landmark moment for the British aristocracy.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten, the Queen’s third cousin once removed, wed his partner James Coyle, 56, in a luxurious ceremony in Devon on Saturday (22 September), the Daily Mail reports.

And now, on his Instagram account, Mountbatten has released some of the images from his happy day.

Writing on the social media site, he said: “Well we did it finally! It was an amazing day despite the miserable British weather. Fabulous service conducted by Trish Harrogate, chief Registrar for Devon, who set the perfect but lighthearted tone for what is a serious occasion. The accompanying gospel choir were amazing. Thank you so much to Bristol’s Teachers Rock Choir for your superb singing. Most importantly a massive thanks to my 3 gorgeous girls for being so understanding and supportive, without their support this could never have happened! And finally the biggest thank you to James for being just perfect……#wedidit #wonderfulday #despitetherain”

The couple, who announced their engagement in June after meeting in 2014, tied the knot at Bridwell Park, Devon, in front of 60 family members and friends, including Lord Mountbatten’s three daughters. Lord Mountbatten, 55, was reportedly given away by his ex-wife Lady Penny Mountbatten, whom he divorced in 2011 after 17 years of marriage.

While no members of the core British Royal Family were present, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who are godparents to Lord Mountbatten’s eldest daughters, reportedly sent their congratulations.

“Their diaries are arranged months in advance and they were not free,” said Lord Mountbatten, “but they adore James.”

Lord Mountbatten, 55, came out publicly in 2016, two years after meeting his now-husband James at a ski resort in Verbier.

He had previously told Lady Mountbatten that he was bisexual prior to the pair’s wedding in 1994, which was attended by the Queen’s late sister, Princess Margaret.

“Being a Mountbatten was never the problem,” the great-great grandson of Queen Victoria previously said of his journey to accepting his sexuality. “It was the generation into which I was born. When I was growing up, it was known as ‘the love that dare not speak its name’, but what’s amazing now is how far we have all come in terms of acceptance.”

The only member of the extended British royal family currently in a public same-sex relationship continued: “‘Coming out’ is such a funny phrase but it’s what I suppose I did in a rather roundabout way, emerging to a place I’m happy to be. I have struggled with my sexuality and in some ways I still do; it has been a real journey to reach this point.”

If God didn’t approve of us being whorish, He wouldn’t have created Grindr.

You can’t hurry love and marriage. They happen when they happen. If you put a deadline on them, you end up being frustrated. If you are worried about wrinkles in your old age, God has created Botox.

Keredim, there’s no love and marriage in the agenda of most gay guys especially Nigerians. Why are you afraid of love? You have no excuse.

Men created Grindr, could it be an inspiration from God? I don’t think so… men make excuses and put everything on God.

J, well I can’t speak for the Nigerian gay guys you know. But the ones I know have love and marriage on their agenda. Just that they don’t go into it with the idealism of a Disney Princess. They are pragmatic about it. They are aware of their environment and circumstances and adjust accordingly.

How can Grindr not have been inspired by God? Look at all the pleasure we derive from it.?

Pleasure you drive from it, not me. I uninstalled grindr and I promise myself never to use it again. I rather meet people face to face.

I know what’s going on in the country, the hate, jungle justice and all. Time is going, we are not getting younger, not for our sex but for the future, the upcoming generation. You can’t experiment with all the gays in the country. You have nothing to prove to society, but you have to be true to yourself in order to get that due respect and compliance from society. People make sacrifices, living their truth and fighting for what they believe in before they are taken seriously. They don’t roam around hurting emotions and spreading diseases saying they are being diplomatic, planning and taking time to bring about change.

So if we stop having sex or reduce the amount of sex we have, this would improve our lot and eradicate homophobia in Nigeria?

And this is being “true to ourselves” how? ?

Don’t be sarcastic, you know what I mean. I didn’t say that you should stop having sex. Well, I know that some of you out there have a phobia for keeping a stable and real relationship… there’s no need of debating with you, it’s your life, do as you wish. I just pity my likes of ‘Disney Princesses’ that depend on you guys for something real. Thank you and have a good day ?

You don’t need to depend on guys like me for something real. You are doing pretty well on the respectability front by not thirsting after guys openly here.

I trust the preparations for the hookup with Bhawscity are going well??

                  Please play safe.

                  Have a nice one. ??

LOL ??? Oh boy, I am being watched and blackmailed!!!

So now you feel judged and you’ve concluded that I am a hypocrite right? I am sorry to bruise your ego. If I was comfortable with hookups, I won’t have kicked against it in the first place. And in as much as I kick against hookups, I don’t condemn people, I like people that are open and willing to work on themselves, because we all know what is good for us and the community… Bhawscity seemed to be full of life and honest and he turned out to be cool, but if he’s acting, then it’s all on him. I’m not as bad as you think, I can flirt with people, but I take time to study them. If there’s an understanding between us then we can think of meeting and see how it goes.

And don’t you ever try to discourage me from speaking against random hookups! It’s dangerous! Are you jealous that I didn’t compliment your sexy, muscular, clean cut chest and belly? Oh well, you are more than a complete package and I hope you will make a good boyfriend ?????
