Aaron Carter splits from girlfriend after opening up about his bisexuality
Aaron Carter has split from his girlfriend of one year, a day after coming out in an open letter.
The ’90s kid pop singer, now aged 29, came out as bi in an emotional letter to fans over the weekend, revealing that he was attracted to both men and women. Carter, known for tracks like Aaron’s Party, spoke about growing up in the entertainment industry while discovering his sexuality.
Just a day after the post, reps confirmed that he had split from girlfriend of one year, Madison Parker.
Carter had previously suggested that he wanted to tie the knot to Parker, who he met through Instagram. But his spokesperson confirmed to E Online: “Aaron and Madison love each other and respect one another dearly. It was a mutual decision and Aaron’s personal statement released speaks for itself. Now back to the music.”
In his letter, Carter had written: “I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-years-old I started to find boys and girls attractive.
“There were years that went by that I thought about it, but it wasn’t until I was 17-years-old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with,” he wrote.
He finished the moving post by adding that for him, music has always been a safe haven and has been a tool to help him understand his sexuality.
“To me, music has always been my temple. Music will ALWAYS be what transcends all of us and myself. The studio has always been my safe haven. But the ultimate goal for me is to be satisfied. I never want to be a figure of disappointment,” he wrote.
He finished the post with a quote from Boy George: “The best quote to sum ‘I’ve never felt as though I didn’t belong, I just acted as though I did.’ – Boy George.”
