BOY MEETS BOY
When you
warmed up to the
spotlighted attention, I paid your way
welcomed in my gestures for friendship.
To my chagrin
You stayed longer than expected
For many took a walk of no return.
Slowly you became my foundation
I saw no me without you.
When you
became an artist
drawing my broken dreams to life
repainting that destructive self-image
I had of myself
Offered your shoulder
for my unburdening
listened to my unending talks,
complaints,
rants and dry jokes,
you drew me out of that shadowed hole of depression
Made me aware of my wings
And taught me to fly.
When you
made my house your home
spent your every free time with me
Letting me in to know you can be broken too,
I became a fixer
desperately wanting to mend you
as you did me.
When you
said “I care”
The words spilled out of your mouth
long pauses in between.
I knew you struggled to say it
but what mattered was that you said it
I understood every word
For I was already drowning in your ocean’s love.
What I didn’t know
was that
Cupid was yet to strike you,
I was the only one listening
to love’s orchestra
I danced to it
expecting you to join me.
You never did
You only cared.
