Emma Watson Isn’t Single—She’s ‘Self-Partnered’ and Happily So

Emma Watson isn’t single—she’s self-partnered and happy about it!

The Harry Potter star said this during an interview with British Vogue, when she talked about how she prefers to call herself “self-partnered” rather than single as she approaches her 30th birthday.

The actor and activist, whose birthday is in April, said she initially did not understand the “fuss” that surrounded the milestone. More recently, however, she admitted feeling “stressed and anxious” about her upcoming birthday.

She told British Vogue: “If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”

Speaking of how she had never believed the “‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she added: “It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”

The new phrase is reminiscent of actor Gwyneth Paltrow’s use of the term “conscious uncoupling” to describe her divorce proceedings from the Coldplay singer Chris Martin in 2014.

The introduction of this term “self partnered” predictably caused quite the stir on Twitter.

    Self partnered.

It’s a really cute terminology and all.

But I’m with the guy who tweeted about reality not being negative unless you let it. Instead of coining new phrases that help us escape the negative implications of our realities, how about we claim those realities and insist on their positivity.

Cute but unnecessary. To be single is not a bad thing, especially when you’re happy and content.

    ?wtf, she’s older than me.

It’s not a Kool way to say your single or anything, neither is it her avoiding reality or something, if being single is a term/ a thing, then self partnered definitely is.

Lemme quote from etidorpha “you are never truly alone, otherwise alone”. Meaning in the real sense no body is actually alone or single but the inability to find comfort in your own company, pleasure in your own existence is what pushes for an external relationship, most times a cheap distraction, from the key thing, which is neediness, neediness as an inability to cultivate relationship with self, so you need someone to do it for you.

The only thing I think that is kinda sad, is not having found love, an inability to love, I think that is really really really sad, cause love is a virtue of the soul, same way as thought is an attribute of the mind, a handicap soul, is a sad one. but then you don’t need someone to love you to love yourself or feel love. It’s nice to be loved and appreciated duo.

Self partnered is a thing. Love it.
