Gay wedding disrupted in Abuja

Gay wedding disrupted in Abuja

The police in Abuja last Saturday February 6th disrupted a gay wedding between the two men pictured above. The wedding between Abdul Lawal (right) and Umar Tahir (left) was supposed to hold at a popular hotel in Jiwa Community of Abuja, King’s Land Hotel in Abuja. Acting on a tip off, the police laid siege at the venue of the wedding.

Guests had already started arriving at the venue of the wedding, but it wasn’t until the grooms, both from Kaduna state, arrived at the venue that the police pounced and arrests were made, and the grooms taken to the Gwagwa Police Station, where they were detained.

Eyewitnesses say that other people, including the sponsors of the wedding, chairman of the occasion and the owner of the hotel were also arrested during the raid. The sponsors of the marriage were named as Abubakar Tahir and Mohammed Sani.

Wasn’t exactly the ideal couple. Details of the full story is a bit rusty. However,it doesn’t stop to help us realise, Nigeria isn’t a good place to be gay without caution.

*falls of couch with laughter* People need to get real. If you like, go and make yourself a scapegoat for 14yrs prison sentence. Nke ahu gbasaragi ! If the law is to be followed appropriately, even the guests are even looking at 10yrs. Doing a gay wedding in the capital city of a country that has a jail sentence for same act. The irony of it all. Lol. *zooms past post*

This is a clear breaking of the law. These love-birds should have waited na. Or relocated to get married elsewhere. They seem like they’ve got the means, this one they had sponsors for their wedding. It’s sad really. To be so in love, in love enough to make a commitment, and to have that turn into such an ugly situation.

Did they not see that couple Linda carried on her blog about two weeks back. The Nigerian guy and how white partner. Now that’s posh. If you want do wedding, go to US, UK or if your pocket no too reach, una enter SA…..Gay marriage is still legal there. Exchange your vows, come back quietly and live ever happily after. Not go and be doing all these tacky Portharcourt and Abuja backyard weddings. It’s your fellow gay guys that will also tip off the Police. Lol. When I see stories like this, I totally understand some of our parents fears over us.

Parents fear of that gay son of theirs either falling into trouble with the law or bringing the family’s name to shame or ridicule.

Gay wedding in Nigeria? Good lord!!!What could they have been thinking? This is really one instance where we have to be strategic! As beautiful as all our ideals on love and relationships are, contextual practicality should be a major consideration.

Oscar De La Renta actually have a male suits line. Although they make more of bridal dresses. You should ask Google instead of trying to run down someone’s comment. And for the spelling, this is not UTME, it’s just an lgbt blog. It’s not that serious. Lol

There’s a saying, “well behaved women seldom make history”. While I’m not holding brief for the couples nor their sponsors, how else can we start talking about marriage equality in this country if some people decide not to bring it in the public domain?

Examples abound in history of people who decide not to cower nor maintain the status quo. Though not all achieved their intended targets, they will be happier doing it on their terms.

To hear Gay people talk like this very disgusting. If you go through lGBT history. Th historic Change in America started after Stonewall inn if you don’t have the strength to fight then chip in some support. Don’t castigate because these men have done more for gay rights than you ever have.

Read about Stonewall and the drag queens that made gay right a thing in America.

And let us as a community see how we can help and support them
They need lawyers, they need this story to get to th international media. Let’s help anyway we can and n sit and castigate.

I saw this yesterday and I thought to myself “Given the brutal nature of the Nigerian Police, what is the assurance they were not forced into this…’get up’?” I know some gay men can be razz but THIS??? Gay men cannot be this tacky. It smacks of falsehood

I honestly won’t be surprised if this is a hoax – or a misunderstanding of an entirely different ceremony.

Under what laws was the couple to be married anyway? Are they, perhaps, Nigerians with citizenship in another country where same-sex marriage is legal – and so they decided to have a destination wedding. If so, why in Nigeria of all places?

I’ve been seeing this story (copy-and-paste) across blogs since yesterday and frankly it has K-leg. Especially as its accompanying picture fits into the mould of many antigay parodies.

Lol. This is a funny story though. Not everybody is exposed, not many people know why there’s the 14 yrs behind bars punishment. Have you seen the amount of mallams and abokis that God hands? they know nothing. Yes, its stupid to up and get married to a guy here, with the way society frowns upon “the lifestyle” but I don’t think they know the law.
