‘I’m Proud to Be a Happily Married Bisexual Mother.’ – Anna Paquin

The final, seventh season of True Blood kicks off later this month on HBO, but in the meantime, series star Anna Paquin has other things to celebrate — including LGBT Pride Month! “Proud to be a happily married bisexual mother,” the actress, 31, tweeted early Monday, June 8. Looping in the Twitter handles of Equality California, the It Gets Better Project, and the NOH8 Campaign, she added, “Marriage is about love not gender.”

tweeOscar winner Paquin wed True Blood costar Stephen Moyer back in August 2010, and gave birth to their twins Charlie and Poppy just over two years later. She memorably came out as bisexual a few months before her wedding in a statement for the Give a Damn campaign. Over the weekend, the Canada-born star also praised British hubby Moyer’s participation in the massive Soccer Aid charity match in the UK.

Of her bisexuality, the former child actress told Zooey magazine in spring 2010, “For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision.”

The Piano star continued, “It’s not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I’ve heard at this point. For a bisexual, it’s not about gender. That’s not the deciding factor for who they’re attracted to.”

While I am fully in support of my bisexual brethren, I still do not believe it is practical for bisexuals to get married. Unless of cos its an open marriage.
Simply bcos getting married means u may have to give up some part of ur sexuality. Bisexuality practically challenges the institution of marriage. Like why do we even need to get married in d 1st place. Y can’t being with the one u love be enough? Y must we reduce it to paper and pen?
And does marriage even guarantee that d couple will live together happily ever after?

I’ve always hated this b****. we get that you are bisexual, she doesn’t have to sing it in our ears every 5 mins. Just cause you are bisexual doesn’t make you any bit more dignified. Bisexuals always see it as being fortunate that they can have the best of both worlds. I just see them as greedy and selfish and a repository of STDs

And I think we can all agree that yst post was a (massive) flop :p

No we cannot all agree. There’ll be more deep-thinking posts like that. Hope you’re ready to bang more doors viciously. 🙂

that post wasn’t deep thinking. ..it was unnecessary and redundant.

and yes more doors shall me slammed and wigs pulled off in the coming days.

Unnecessary and redundant? Your opinion anyway.

Oh yes, something about bisexuals irk you, I forget. 🙂

Good luck with all the slamming and banging. (No pun intended) 🙂

Seriously, redundant? That she has decided to use her celebrity status to always remind people that “hey, there are bisexual dudes and ladies here too,” is redundant? Please. If our own gay celebrities will be just a little more daring, and start coming out, you’ll be surprised the magic that will happen here. The bulk of the problem with the way Nigerians see homosexuals stems from the fact that the homosexual is seen as the ‘other’, the ‘non-existent’ or ‘it can’t be my brother or sister’. I don’t want to talk for too long, I think I’ll better explore this in an article. We need to grow up, abeg (no offence intended).

Lastly, for Kendigin to say he doesn’t think bisexuals should marry is wrong. Yes. It comes from a psyche that wants to reduce alternative lifestyle relationships to mere sexual relationship, without love. The funny thing is, Kendigin may or may not be aware of this, but that’s what he has done. A straight woman can be married and still find other men attractive; she can decide to cheat or not. Commitment in retationships doesn’t preclude attraction–we’re humans for Christ’s sake. But the thing is, you can say, okay, he or she is hot, but I have decided to love this person I’m with now, so it’s no-go-area. That doesn’t make you less straight or less gay or less bi or less whatever. The bottomline is, she is capable of loving or desiring a fellow woman, but for now, she has decided to be with a man. Just as my mother is capable of loving or desiring other men, but has currently decided to be with my father. It’s that simple.

if u read my comment well u will see that I meant the previous post was redundant not this one

and if u really knew what redundant means, u will realize dt u assuming I meant this post was redundant is out of context.

Yeah. Thank you, Chizzie for calling my attention to your comment. I have read it again, and I have found something new to say: that I have finally learnt that being gay and experiencing a lumping-together judgment, stereoptypes, etc, doesn’t mean you’ll be any less inclined to judge others by generalizing and stereotyping. Bisexuals are greedy, spread STD…you say, huh? Thanks for sharing your thought.

I find the comments funny. I am bisexual and I know the reactions I get when I say I am. I find it very odd that the very people who are crying to be understood do not allow others to express their sexuality freely. Maybe some people just claim to be bisexual and feel its an advantage. Maybe its an advantage or maybe its not. That’s not the issue here. Do unto others what you want them to do to you. You don’t tolerate someone because of their expressed sexuality and you expect to be tolerated? Stigmatization is everywhere, even among gay. Top versus bottom, masculine vs feminine, exclusively gay vs bisexual. So we prove that we are not better than our “persecutors”. Again let us set people free on this sexuality matter. Let those who want to marry, marry. And let those who want to remain single stay single. This is about ALLOWING.
