Kit Harington Thinks Hollywood Is Sexist Against Men Too

In an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington compared the “demeaning” experience he and other male actors now endure to that which actresses and other female professionals in Hollywood have put up with for decades. “I think there is a double standard,” he said, adding: “If you said to a girl, ‘Do you like being called a babe?’ and she said, ‘No, not really,’ she’d be absolutely right.”

As Harington put it, “I like to think of myself as more than a head of hair or a set of looks.” He’s not wrong, as his sentiment regarding his own self-image and worth are the very backbone of empowerment emphasized by feminist arguments against sexism. Whether sexist attitudes exist in Hollywood, the film and television industries elsewhere around the world, or in other walks of life, it’d be nice to know one was appreciated for more than what they look like to the opposite (or preferred) sex.

“It’s demeaning. Yes, in some ways, you could argue I’ve been employed for a look I have. But there’s a sexism that happens towards men,” Harrington continued. “There’s definitely a sexism in our industry that happens towards women, and there is towards men as well. At some points during photoshoots when I’m asked to strip down, I felt that.”

Yet with recent news stories about Gillian Anderson and Robin Wright’s unequal paychecks for The X-Files and House of Cards respectively, and countless other instances of Hollywood’s sexism towards women, it’s difficult to consider Harington’s comments seriously. Hence why the majority of Twitter that wasn’t infatuated with the Game of Thrones actor’s mid-radio interview phone call with fellow cast member Maisie Williams chose to knock him down a peg.kittweet1kittweet2kittweet3

Yet Men earn way more than women in Hollywood and recently Robin Wright had to fight and put her feet down to be paid the same amount as her co-star Kevin Spacey in House of Cards, even though she is the fan favorite and technically brings in more revenue.

I feel the urge to shove something fat into your mouth sir.

Kit really is beginning to get on my nerves. A sexism really? Not only are you a man in Hollywood, but a white male! Hollywood in fact, the world is predisposed to treat you better than literally everyone else( Men and women of color and white women )

Hasn’t he made similar comments like this in the past? You were asked to strip down for a photoshoot and all of a sudden the world isn’t fair? Bitch please. What business do you think you’re in?
If this his attitude isn’t the definition of white privilege I don’t know what is.

Take nude scenes on Game of thrones for example. Biko oga kit…How many full nude scenes have you had in 6 seasons of this show? Now compare that to Emilia Clark’s Daenerys, and kit begins to look like a mumu.
I remember a sex scene with him and Rose Leslie’s Ygritte. She was fully naked and yet somehow kit managed to show very little skin. And that same imbalance is seen throughout the show. You don’t see Khal Drogo naked but you see Khalessi. You don’t see Robb Stark Naked but you see his wife Talisa and on and on it goes.

Men also earn more than women and that’s a fact. Robin Wright had to threaten Netflix’s execs before she could earn as much as Kevin Spacey when they are both leads on the show?

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin had to do the same to get the same pay check as Martin Sheen on Grace and Frankie.

Another example is The Comic book movies.
Take Diane Lane as Clark Kent’s mother in Batman Vs Superman. The actress is 51 and I don’t think her character is much older. Yet she is made to look old and cranky. They whiten her hair to make push that. Now Robert Downey Jnr (iron man) is literally the same age and yet he can play a sexy billionaire play boy, but God forbid if Clark Kent’s mother is made to look remotely desirable.

That my dear kit is Sexism. When you’ve experienced that then you can talk. Until then keep quiet and be glad you have a steady job that gives you a paycheck.

Wait a minute, Jane Fonda and Lili Tomlin had to fight to get the same paychecks as their male co-stars? Jane Fonda (Grace) and Lily Tomlin (Frankie) of the show, Grace and Frankie? Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin whose characters are the show? Whose pictures are on the posters? The ones carrying the show?
They are the ones who have to worry about lower paychecks? Are ya kidding me?!
