Labour MP Keith Vaz ‘was suicidal’ after tabloid outed him in rent boy scandal

Keith Vaz was suicidal after the Sunday Mirror outed him, his wife has revealed.

Vaz, who held one of the most powerful backbench roles in Parliament, was outed by a Sunday Mirror sting last week.

The newspaper alleged that the Labour politician had sex with two male sex workers, and offered to reimburse them if they bought cocaine – though he made it clear he did not want any. He also asked them to bring poppers, which are legal.

There was no suggestion in the story that Mr. Vaz broke any law, but he quit as Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee amid the controversy.

Speaking to the Daily Mail on Sunday, his wife Maria Fernandes said he was left suicidal following the sting.

Explaining her decision to stick by her husband, she said: “‘I think he was suicidal. We have to look after our own. I am angry with him but my love is greater. Yet if it happens again, I am done.”

When Vaz was 14, his father died by suicide. Mrs. Fernandes added that her husband had exhibited similar traits previously, when he was forced to resign as Minister of State for Europe in 2001.

She recalled: “I think that’s why I looked out for him. He was looking very broken. I think he was suicidal.”

While explaining that she feels betrayed by her husband, Mrs. Fernandes said she was more upset by the cheating than by the fact it was men he cheated with.

She said: “I can’t say sex with men is any different… I was betrayed, my trust was betrayed and in a sense it doesn’t matter whether it’s a man or a woman. The shock was also the whole scenario of allegedly using sex workers because it’s so unlike him. If I expected anything could have happened, it would have been within a relationship rather than, you know…

“Actually, had it been within a relationship, it could have been worse as there would have been an emotional connection. In a sense it’s better [because money changed hands] but I don’t condone paying for sex.”

The pair are undergoing relationship counseling, but plan to stick by each other.

Mrs. Fernandes vowed: “We’ve reached a very difficult point but you marry for better or for worse. At this moment, it’s the worst period. You just see it through.”

She added that their two children, 18 and 21, have been upset by the scandal.

She continued: “It was a terrible shock and I am still processing it … Keith is not a bad person, he’s just done a terrible thing. It’s absolutely terrible because it’s affected all of us, because it’s affected the kids. But he’s a good person, a good father, he’s been a good husband and nine-tenths of the time he’s got things right. This time he’s fallen… badly.”

Going on, she said: “I would have liked to have taken all my crockery and broken it on his head. My immediate thought was to tell him to leave then have space to discuss things. I’ve decided to forgive him. That’s different to forgiving him right now. If I don’t forgive him eventually, it is going to tear me up. It’s going to destroy me and I don’t want that. I don’t like that feeling of anger and bitterness.

“Although I’m a lapsed Christian, there is still a Christian part of me that talks about forgiveness because you let go if you forgive. So from that point of view, yes, I’ve made the decision but how it will be done … that’s all to happen in the future.”

Oh yes, I can see the anti-MGM lobbyists warming up to do the “I told you so” choreographed dance.

Before you finish your warm up, you may want to consider the following:

    1) When you hear Keith Vaz speak and see his countenance, it is difficult not to wonder how he likes to bottom. (But i shan’t dwell on that)

    2) For the bandwagon feminists in the group.. Mrs Vaz owns a successful law firm in London, which trades using her influential husband’s name. She is doing very well for herself.

    3) They collectively own a £4m property portfolio. (Link below). So she maybe playing for time “processing” the situation, while looking at ways to split their collective (both known and unknown)assets, before moving on to the next stage of the “forgiveness” process—i.e. Separation

    4) A few years ago Mr Vaz was accused of using his influence to help a billionaire Indian steel magnate, in obtaining a British Passport. Mrs Vaz’s law firm represented the steel magnate.

So when I take these few points above, I am dubious about girlfriend’s public confessional.

She either knew what she was getting into ab initio or a few days into their honeymoon and made the best of a bad situation…

    You may start dancing now.??????

Loool. You think because she KNEW his proclivities, she’d av loved to share? Well, NEWS FLASH bro, NO WOMAN likes to share. I hope she squeezes him for all his life’s worth. A step our Nigerian wives (victims) should really think to emulate. Let’s get the MGMs to think on that.

      “NO WOMAN likes to share”

How do you explain 2nd, 3rd, 4th….nth wives in polygamous marriages?!!

Ignoring your regressive generalisation for a second, I think she was given lemons and she created a lemonade factory.

Isn’t that the female empowerment you keep harping on about? ?

Ahhh yes! Its a glorious day when that side-whore is finally wifed. Senior wife definitely saw it coming and earnestly awaited such.a day when she’d start to live with and love sharing her man. Polygamy is such a joy, doncha think?

Yup. She definitely hit the mother of all factories this time. While, just as u av rightly pointed out, she is only still looking for ways to profit from these…indiscretions, I wonder if she will be running for a seat soon. Hell sure hath no fury like a wife scorned *reads about the Clintons*

Yet again, since Vaz’s wife (is getting) got a huge lemonade factory from this mess, I guess it makes sense to subject more women to marriages such as these. Steady supply of lemonade to last several lifetimes.

Nah!!! Its Think-back Tuesday. A steady reminder that Marriages would never end up like theirs…if they didn’t go into them in the 1st place.

Ah ah Ambi, again you are allowing your emotions cloud your brilliance

I asked for an explanation of 2nd wives onwards who “shine their eye” enter polygamous marriage. It is a given wife number one would most likely not want to share. I was just questioning your sweeping remarks.

No, she is too sharp to run for office. She is tainted by at least the passport scandal. And playing “my husband cheated on me” card will not cut it.

As for your “steady supply of lemonade” remark…look around you. It is already happening and it has always happened. Its not just the affliction of “all” MGM based marriages, it is the basis of some mainstream marriages as well, especially in the high echelons of society.

Nah!!! Emotions ehkwa? What my eyes av seen and my ears av heard in my time on this earth ehn… And the second to nth wife hopes she is d last forgetting she came in to usurp another’s position. You will see I didn’t qualify them as anything else but ‘whores’.

And because it seems the mainstream of all marriages these days, we should sit back and allow it? It is indeed meet to mind one’s business.
