Lil Nas X Comments On Rema’s Instagram Post, And Homophobic Nigerians Have A Meltdown
Rapper Lil Nas X is having a moment internationally, from the controversy stoked by his chart-topping single, MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name), to the reactions that came in the aftermath of his BET performance, where he kissed one of his male dancers on the stage. And the Old Town Road hitmaker clearly has one message he wants the world to get: he’s gay and he’s unapologetic about it.
However, amidst the love he gets from his fans and the gay community at large, there is also the homophobic backlash to some of his moments, from the meltdown that Christians had over the reference to Satan in his Montero music video, to those who suddenly think that there’s such a thing as doing too much during a stage performance, simply because the male performer kissed a man.
Lil Nas X appears to have the attention of homophobes – and the Nigerian populace is apparently no exception.
Nigerian singer, Rema yesterday posted a couple of pictures on his Instagram page, with a caption that thanked Crack Magazine for the cover.
And in the comments, much to the shock of Rema’s fans, was Lil Nas X commenting his appreciation of the photos.
“These are fire,” the Montero rapper said.
The comment promptly generated a lot of reactions, from those who couldn’t believe that such a big star would have not only noticed the post but commented on it to those expressing their love for the rapper.
Then there were those who couldn’t help the show of their homophobia, as they swarmed the comment’s thread with their rejection of Lil Nas X’s interest.
This isn’t the first time that Lil Nas X has shown some love to Rema. In 2019, he showed that he had Rema’s Dumebi on his playlist when he shared the tune via his social media to let his followers know what he was playing. Rema gave a shout-out to him for loving his song and he further endorsed the Mavin Records singer by calling him a star.
