Musician John Grant Says Gay Men Worry Too Much About Aging

‘This aging thing is quite strange. I don’t want to generalize too much, but gay men worry about aging a lot more than other men, from what I can tell.

‘Youth is prized above all things — the beauty of youth — and I know a lot of gay men who are very, very obsessed with keeping young.

‘I don’t understand it in most of their cases. I think older men are super sexy. The ‘beauty of youth’ thing, I totally get that. But by God! I would not want to be where I was in my 20s. I was clueless!”

Out Musician John Grant discusses aging as a gay man — a theme on his acclaimed album Grey Tickles, Black Pressure — in an interview with NewNowNext

Old age is only beautiful when you have someone to share your life with. Its the drive to be desired that makes gay men obsess about youth.
Plus gay men are extremely shallow!

I’m with you at the beginning of your comment, ken. Old age only looks good when you, as a gay man or really just anyone, gay or straight, have somebody to spend it with. It’s a nightmare I find myself waking up from every now and then – the prospect of waking up old and alone. *shudder*

Please there’s nothing good about ageing. Wrinkles, fatigue during most basic tasks, interaction with fewer people (because let’s face it, you’re old) and other bunch of stuff. Did I fail to mention >> closer to your grave?
Just like a car, your market value decreases with age. Once you hit the magic age of 25 as a gay man, it starts dwindling.

Bald Head(for those who have the susceptibility),weak erection, weak in bed during sex, tufia!. You gotta hate old age.

I used to be paranoid about getting older, but not anymore. At my last birthday I was totally chilled and happy with my new age because getting older is a privilege denied to so many people. We should celebrate it.

It will happen, so rather than fighting it prepare for it by making healthy choices; exercise, very good eating habits, take care of your body and pack in as many amazing memories as you can into your lifetime.

I look forward to when I am 70 living in a retirement home of the coast of some exquisite country and listening to Billy Joel. I sincerely hope the Orishas allow me the gift of longevity

I don’t know about U but I’ve started preparing for old age. I’ve even picked a partner for those golden years, someone whose quick wit and sense of humour are equal to mine. We’ll never have a dull moment.
And as for wrinkles and all that, aging gracefully doesn’t just happen. In as much as my genetic pool is to die for, I’m working towards it. I mean look at Ian Mckellen and Sean Connery and Julie Andrews and Maggie Smith

Well of course gay men worry more about ageing, because we are generally vain people and highly aesthetic driven . Plus anal sex doesn’t seem exactly flattering when one gets to a certain age. There’s the worry about anal retentiveness and most of ndi power bottoms might become incontinent before they hit 40. So why won’t the gays be worried

PS : This would’ve been the perfect post to be extremely shady, but not today Satan. You have used me long enough.

Old age is inevitable, isn’t it better to be prepared for it than to be totally gobsmacked when you hit 30? Since we now view 30 as the new 50?

Age is a seasoned trickster. To our parents, we will always be children. Within ourselves, the same yearnings of youth; the same aspirations of adolescence, will last a lifetime. Only to the young – blinded by the grey hair and slowing gait – do we appear old and frail.

Truth is some people age, and some just dehydrate.

And it won’t be that we’ll have more patience as we grow older, I believe we’ll be too tired to care about all the pointless drama.

Enjoy growing up, it’s pure bliss.
Especially when wisdom resides in the cores of our mind.

I can’t lie, aging scares the bejesus crap outta me!!! To think that one day i’ll look in the mirror and not like what i see; to think that one day the body i’ve managed to keep firm and supple will abandon me and migrate downwards … haaa … if that isnt scary, then what is?? However, i’ve slowly started to come to terms with the fact that Father time is relentless and merciless; he spares no one! from the moment you’re born, you’re in the cross-hairs and can only evade his shots for so long. I’ve resolved to live as fully as i can, to pack in as many experiences as i can find at to live with few regrets; so far i’ve been remarkably successful with that. As for finding someone to share the old lonely grey and saggy days with you; hmmm … these men ain’t loyal!!!! Most men i know, no matter their age, want to chase after the next hot young thing; so … i reckon my best bet is to find true happiness from within independent of anyone …

“True Beauty lies within” sadly these words doesn’t exist in the Dictionary of the LGBT Community. ‘Most’ Gay people are Vain and Shallow to say the least. we are always seeking peoples approval of our state of being. Hence, why we try to look young. there is this (False) notion that when you look young you are more attractive and thus your chances of being accepted or wanted increases in the community. while some might argue it to be true but this says a lot about the community when people go extra mile just to look and remain young. of cause this notion or behavior is not only exclusive to the gay community but its paramount. We all hate old-age because of our mentality and inferiority complex. (No Thanks to the world at large in the first place). There is a difference between trying to look and stay healthy while graciously accepting old age and trying really hard to look literally (dressing, demeanor, Character etc) young, big difference, the latter is most of the gay peoples problem.

I was once told ‘constant sex with young bloods keeps one fresh, young and full of life in Old age’. Hmmmm! i would be lying if i said that wasn’t one the best bit of advice have gotten.

Help me lord so that I may overlook the hideousness and filth that comes out of their mouth
Help me so that I could look the other way and smile when they utter their ghastly comments.
Lastly, I pray that you help lead them in your path oh lord, I pray to you lord so that you may wash off the filth that is dwelling in their skull. Wash them in your blood and make them clean once more so that they’ll stop seeing the world from their crooked glasses.
