My First Love
He is big boned, tender and full of life, jiggling away in the rain
He smiles, plump cheeks, full lips
His smile showing teeth as brilliant as the snow in the Arctic
He is innocent – nothing matters to him but fun, a full belly and his mother.
My First Love is a snack
He smells like freshly-baked cookies, soft and sweet like nectar
He is smart but has problems with Math
But he has good fortune. He always finds a way.
My First Love found something he lost
He found pieces of a mirror in the rubble
Carefully pieced each fragment together
Every scar, every love, every loss and every lesson.
My First Love found something again
Something with a beautiful backstory
Something with years of experience and purpose
Oh, my First Love found me
My First Love found me when I found myself again.

November 16, 09:23Self love is very important. I actually love this poem. You see the title and think, oh it’s going to be something romantic about some guy.
Then you get to the end and see the valuable lesson the poem is giving: to love yourself the most first and foremost.
Thank you, Shiffi, for this reminder.

November 18, 10:09Just when I thought this was going to be the usual good’ol love poetry to someone, you blew my mind Shiffi!
The greatest love of all indeed is to love yourself, Whitney Houston couldn’t have sang that any better.
Good for you Shiffi….for reminding all of us.
