Porn Star Cade Maddox Said His Mother Left His Stepfather When He Tried To Make Her Choose Between Her Gay Son And Her Marriage

Cade Maddox recently sat down with JJ Malibu to talk about his coming out, an experience he had when he was eighteen years old.

The adult film performer, who won the GayVN award for 2020’s Performer of the Year, had previously shared his story in the pride month NakedSword mini-documentary, where he talked about how he was outed after his sisters got on his computer and saw his messages on MySpace.

In this interview, he talks about the experience again, saying his coming out “wasn’t my choice. My sisters got onto my MySpace on my computer and found some messages, told my mom and she asked me about it.”

And he didn’t deny it. He also admitted that it was tough, being out, especially given his religious background. As someone from South Mississippi, he said he came from the kind of religious household where “we had to go to church like twice a week, and if you missed church, you didn’t do any extracurricular activity throughout the week.”

He talked about his community being “hypocritical” and “very Bible-beltish”, adding that they “use the Bible in a lot of hateful ways instead of good ways. So I lost a lot of friends, and gained real friends at the same time.”

Just like he did in the documentary, Maddox reiterated here that he didn’t care about any other person’s acceptance as long as his immediate family was okay with it. “After my mom and my sisters were okay with it, I didn’t really care if anybody else was okay with it.”

He added that his mother even went as far as leaving his stepfather “because he gave her an ultimatum of he’s not gonna allow this in this household. So he told her to choose me or him. So we packed up our stuff and we left.”

At this point, he teared up, admitting that he “hadn’t thought about that in forever.”

When asked what he would like to say to his mother and sisters that he hadn’t said before to them, he said, “Just a huge thank you for the support. It makes a huge difference when you have a great support system. And everybody doesn’t. So I know that I’m very blessed.”

He however added, “And even if you don’t [have that support system], you get one life. You gotta live it, be the happiest you can be.”
