Reaction to the fall of Milo Yiannopoulos after pedophile row
Some writers, including JK Rowling, have reacted to the fall of Milo Yiannopoulos.
The far-right firebrand lost his job at Breitbart News after a damaging tape in which he discussed men who have sex with underage boys came to light.
Journalists and writers have reacted to the news with glee.
Yiannopoulos had previously targeted Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones, which got him banned from Twitter.
Feminist author Roxanne Gay also cancelled her book deal after the publisher commissioned Milo’s book, Dangerous, which has now been axed.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling did some excellent sub-tweeting.
Yiannopoulos, who has built a large following as a Donald Trump supporter, had his book deal axed and was dropped from the Republican CPAC conference this week, after explosive tapes featured him allegedly defending men who have sex with underage boys.
The outspoken journalist, who officially held the position of ‘Tech Editor’ on far-right website Breitbart News but covered a wide range of issues, had come under fire after clips surfaced in which he appeared to defend men who have sex with underage boys.
In a statement, he said: “Breitbart News has stood by me when others caved. They have allowed me to carry conservative and libertarian ideas to communities that would otherwise never have heard them. They have been a significant factor in my success. I’m grateful for that freedom and for the friendships I forged there.
“I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately. This decision is mine alone.
“When your friends have done right by you, you do right by them. For me, this means stepping aside so my colleagues at Breitbart can get back to the great work they do.”
The far-right figure and internet troll was already deeply controversial, previously claiming he would ‘cure’ himself of being gay if he could, describing trans people as “mentally ill gay men dressing up for attention”, and using a university lecture to single out and bully a transgender student on-stage.

February 23, 08:19Let’s not kid ourselves. He isn’t finished. This little scum sucking leech is going to cling to the fame like a rat on a sinking ship. The ‘refugees are cockroaches’ article didn’t sink Katie Hopkins, and since no one really cares about ethics or facts, he’ll climb up. He’ll do it because his hunger for fame and delusions of grandeur are all we have left.
What’ll happen is he’ll play the victim identity politics card he railed so hard against, use all this press to fuel his claims of being the ‘real victim’ and either return to the UK and write for the Daily Mail when this has all calmed down, or found his own website which he’ll get his loser brigade to fund like he did with the Privilige Grant that still hasn’t gone to anyone.
However, for now he’s learning how hollow it is to be hated, and how very nasty it is to be turned on. So for now, I’ll laugh at him the same way as I laugh at Trumps antics before the inevitable end of civilisation as we know it.
