Simi gets called out on Twitter for her hypocrisy regarding the recognition of human rights
In March, Simi came out on her Youtube show, Stoopid Sessions, to reveal how homophobic she is and her absolute disregard for people based on their sexual orientation. “[Homosexuality] just doesn’t seem natural to me,” she said, justifying her prejudice by stating that “it is not only things that affect us that we’re uncomfortable with.”
Well, two days ago, the singer lent her voice to the international outrage regarding the police brutality that resulted in the death of a Black man in the US, George Floyd.
Four Minneapolis police officers were implicated in the death of George Floyd, who was held down with a knee as he protested that he couldn’t breathe. The officers, responding to an alleged forgery in progress Monday evening, arrested Floyd. He was handcuffed and placed face-down on the ground. From the viral video that showed what happened, after several minutes of pleading with the officer pressing a knee to the back of his neck, the man appeared motionless, his eyes shut, his head against the pavement. The video shows two officers by the man on the ground – one of them with his knee over the back of the man’s neck. The video did not capture what led up to the arrest or what police described as the man resisting arrest.
“Please, I can’t breathe,” the man said, screaming for several minutes before he became silent.
The video has sparked an outrage and protests all over the world, and has led to the firing of the police officers and an FBI investigation.
And on Twitter, Simi had something to say about the inhumanity of what happened.
“And we have our own people killing us in the streets and it has become so normal now,” she tweeted. “It’s almost more abhorrent. As fucked as it is, it is one thing for people to be intimidated by and hate you for being different, but how do you not value someone the exact same as you?”
This would be noble, if it didn’t come from the same person who herself showed no value for people the exact same as herself.
And Nigerian Gay Twitter was not here for her hypocrisy. The dragging was swift and merciless.
