The Vatican Still Maintains That Gay Men Shouldn’t Be Priests

For the record, the Vatican still doesn’t think those of us with “deep-seated homosexual tendencies” or people who “support the so-called ‘gay culture’” should not be priests.

A new statement reiterates the ban on gay priests that’s been in place since 2005, stating that those who “practice homosexuality” will not be welcomed into the priesthood.

The document was published Thursday:

“The Church, while profoundly respecting the persons in question, cannot admit to the seminary or to holy orders those who practice homosexuality, present deep-seated homosexual tendencies or support the so-called ‘gay culture.’

“Such persons, in fact, find themselves in a situation that gravely hinders them from relating correctly to men and women.

“One must in no way overlook the negative consequences that can derive from the ordination of persons with deep-seated homosexual tendencies.”

    “…present deep-seated homosexual tendencies…”

Does this mean if you are effeminate, they might want to interrogate you a bit more to be sure whether to let you in the gates or not? Hmmmm…

Yeah, sexuality ain’t but you missed this part:
“The Church, while profoundly respecting the persons in question, cannot admit to the seminary or to holy orders those who practice homosexuality,”.
It can be argued, from their point of view, the “practice of homosexuality” is a choice, same as celibacy.
There are lots of gay Catholic priests, this I know. It’s just not officially encouraged.
What I really want to know is why it’s so important for a post here.

            No sir,it’s not news.
That has always been the position of the catholic church for two millennia now.The church officially don’t allow anything sex among members of its priesthood.
How that became news this century is what’s confusing me.Perhaps you can shed some light

There may be some truth to the “PP v Religious people” narrative, but that was not my intention.I don’t dabble in that.

    Hmmm human being sef!
Why is it so different for Catholic, a priest can’t marry… after all, God uses both the married and unmarried to propagate His words… and God still listens and Work with anyone He wants…

The Catholic Church was the first, Original church. The medieval Church decided on clergy Celibacy as a result of monastic reform in the 10th 11th and 12th centuries. It’s a way to deny the body to focus on the spiritual, and prevent clergy from struggling for marriage and position in the earthly kingdom etc.

I deeply feel like whether you’re gay or straight shouldn’t be an issue because afterall. Priests take a vow of celibacy

What exactly is “deep homosexual tendencies” ?

The “gay culture” of drugs, wild parties and sexual promiscuous living as flaunted in the west is a “NO” for me as well as some other gay men. So i can understand that part. But what is “deep gay culture” ?
