“Follow your heart instead of belief or scripture.” ‘Boy Erased’ actor, Joel Edgerton advises parents struggling to accept LGBTI children
Joel Edgerton both stars in and directs Boy Erased, a movie about a teen who was sent to a gay conversion therapy camp. And he has offered advice to parents who struggle to accept LGBTI children.
When he was asked “As a result of making the film, what would your advice be to a parent struggling with their child’s sexuality?”, Joel replied: “That love is the path to least resistance.”
The star furthermore added: “That acceptance keeps a family together. Follow your heart, rather than belief or scripture or other people’s opinion.”
Joel also reportedly discussed last year’s The Miseducation of Cameron Post. The critically-acclaimed drama also about conversion therapy starred Chloe Grace Moretz.
“Boy Erased and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, they’re on the same shelf,” he said. “I call it a one-two punch. Anybody that says those two films existing in the same year dilutes something – I point them in the direction of the 50 superhero movies and rom coms that are made every year.”

January 30, 11:16It eternally baffles me how parents are so quick to discard their children, throw parental love in the back, in favour of their beliefs, what the Bible says, what society thinks. The abstract overcomes the real. SMH.
