Stonewall launches new campaign encouraging LGBT community to stand together

Stonewall has announced details of its latest campaign, which aims to highlight how the LGBT community is stronger when it stands together.

#ByYourSide is aimed at highlighting how the LGBT community can stand together – as allies, communities and organisations – to ensure all LGBT people can be accepted without exception.

A statement from Stonewall explains that the campaign is about “bringing people into our movement and showing people that we can all do something to make a difference.

“Over the summer we will be encouraging people to take small steps to change attitudes – whether it’s posing as part of a Wall of Pride, bringing their family and friends to Pride, visibly pledging their support or celebrating the people who support them.

“#ByYourSide is about being visible, open, accessible,” the statement added.

“It’s about helping people understand what it means to be LGBT and why it’s so important for us to be accepted without exception in every community.”

A video launched to promote the campaign shows a host of LGBT people honouring the people who have stood by their sides during their toughest times – from parents to partners and best friends to colleagues.

The person who’s always been #ByMySide is…is… Well, no one yet. Kinda hard to have that one person by your side when you’re not brave enough to let anyone to reach your side.
