“Shame is running through my blood.” ‘Black Panther’ actor distances himself from his “gay” porn past
Patrick Shumba Mutukwa had a small role in this year’s major blockbuster, Black Panther. In the movie, he played a Border Tribe warrior, and even though you might miss him if you blinked, it made him a bit of a hero in his home country of Zambia.
But Mutukwa faced some difficult questions this weekend when his “gay” porn past came to light. Local papers reported on his work and claimed fans were disgusted by the news.
Atlanta-based Mutukwa was touring his home country of Zambia, talking about the film, when images from an adult film he starred in when he was in his 20s under the alias Shumba Jones, began circulating online.
In a statement put out by his publicist, Larissa Long of BlueRed Communications, Mutukwa took about as sex-negative a stance on his past as possible, calling it “unsavory,” an “errored decision,” and “immature behavior.”
Read the full statement below:
“Recently there was an unsavory video released of Shumba Mutukwa to the Zambian public from his 20s. He was a young man that made a choice not all may agree with however, it does not change who Mr. Mutukwa is as a man, philanthropist, or actor. Mr. Mutukwa has grown and learned from his past as we all do. Although he recognizes his errored decision he does own up to the immature behavior in his past. There is nothing more he can do but continue to use his celebrity to better the country of Zambia. He temporarily closed down his social media accounts only because he knows there are children engaged with him that he knows should not witness the video. He asks that people refrain from sharing the video on social media to look out for young eyes. Again, he was a young man himself and is not the same youthful person he was. His life is dedicated to bettering others and what he did in his past has nothing to do with what he’s accomplished and will continue to accomplish. He has strong pride in Zambia and works hard to make the country and its citizens proud. That is his path and he has proven well beyond a doubt that who he is today and will be in the future. The man you’ve grown to love, not the youth that makes immature decisions. For any questions or statements on this matter please contact Mr. Mutuka’s publicist Larissa Long.
“Thank you for understanding we all make mistakes but know I will continue to bring pride to Zambia. My growth continues in everything I do from errors to successes.” – Shumba
Mutukwa later tweeted: “Thank you for understanding we all make mistakes but know I will continue to bring pride to Zambia. My growth continues in everything I do from errors to successes.”
The actor then posted a poem on his Facebook account called 99 Things.
After some digging, it was revealed that Mutukwa’s “gay” porn work was limited to a single scene. And you certainly couldn’t even call it gay; he was jerking off alone and using a Fleshlight. He did the work for Entertainment West Studios, which describes itself as “an adult entertainment company that specializes in hardcore urban content,” creating sites like RoughThugs.com and ThugSeduction.net. In his profile, they describe him as straight but promise he may be down for some man-on-man action in future scenes. This doesn’t appear to have been the case.
We have to wonder: if this scene was shot for a straight site, and there were a few boobs in the background, would it have caused as much of a fuss?

April 17, 07:44*Smh* Please, I even thought, it was hardcore material. I wonder what he would done if he done some f?cking. This is the 21st century. Pornography is an entertainment media. People should stop shaming pornographers while Secretly watching them at night.
Anyway, he’s just scared it would ruin his career. He should see the good in this though. At least the world knows he would have no problem with a nude scene, which is very important for the ‘oscars’…

April 17, 12:09This shaming culture is so toxic. I do feel a lot of pity for him especially after reading his poem. Yet I can’t help wishing that the story ended differently, with him owning his past and raising his middle finger to the world. Like seriously, fuck them.

April 17, 18:31As a good person that I am, I’ve went and done the research on all your behalves. So this Shumba, the Blek Penta of Zambia, did not actually do gay porn…he featured in a jack off solo for a studio that does gay porn.
Apart from all the usual lessons about privacy and once posted etc, is that even in the future Wakanda you gotta be scared to be gay. Na wa.
This dude was only fucking fleshlight o. A pussy shaped toy. And he’s forming fake apology due to pressure and career tins. Internalized homophobia sha. And he lives in ATL where everybody’s gay except …
…Sha if you want to see the video, just for research purposes like me, his name there was Zulu. Google is your friend.

May 06, 07:21That’s it? Like seriously that’s it? You messed around when you we’re younger so what? They don’t watch porn? Like porn is a movie with white static noise and no actors. I wonder how they found it. This apology is really unnecessary. I’d have had two responds. First one would be silence. Second response “Trolls. All they do is seek a way to pull you down. Sick humanity”

May 06, 07:46I don’t blame him for that stupid baseless apology. I blame every other person that promoted the GAY part of it. So “gay” has become the best way to shame anyone who comes to light. So “gay” is the topic any idiot like the Nigerian bread seller would pick in when they want fame. Gay is the new shame. Great!
