Farafina Trust Creative Writing Workshop 2015 Is Here

farafina_trust_logo-email-size1A KDian just a few days ago asked me about the Farafina Trust Creative Writing Workshop, and I told him I would put it up once the call for entries is open. And this blog has brought me in contact with truly gifted writers, who, have they not already being on the workshop, should. I’m an alumni of the workshop myself, and it truly is a experience to have.

So the call for entries goes thus:

Farafina Trust will be holding a creative writing workshop in Lagos, organized by award-winning writer and creative director of Farafina Trust, Chimamanda Adichie, from June 16 to June 26, 2015. The workshop is sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc. Guest writers who will co-teach the workshop alongside Adichie are the Caine Prize Winning Kenyan writer Binyavanga Wainaina, National Librarian of Norway Aslak Sira Myhre, and others.

The workshop will take the form of a class. Participants will be assigned a wide range of reading exercises, as well as daily writing exercises. The aim of the workshop is to improve the craft of Nigerian writers and to encourage published and unpublished writers by bringing different perspectives to the art of storytelling. Participation is limited only to those who apply and are accepted.

To apply, send an e-mail to Udonandu2015@gmail.com. Your e-mail subject should read ‘Workshop Application.’ The body of the e-mail should contain the following:

Your name

Your address

A few sentences about yourself

A writing sample of between 200 and 800 words. The sample must be either fiction or non-fiction.

All material must be pasted or written in the body of the e-mail. Please DO NOT include any attachments in your e-mail. Applications with attachments will be automatically disqualified.

Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2015. Only those accepted to the workshop will be notified by June 2, 2015. Accommodation in Lagos will be provided for all accepted applicants who are able to attend for the ten-day duration of the workshop. A literary evening of readings, open to the public, will be held at the end of the workshop.

I met her once at the airport and i couldnt speak! I felt like i was in the presence of a deity; i started hyperventilating and was tongue tied. She merely laughed, took my “the thing around your neck” from my hands, signed it and gave me a hug.

She left before i could gather my wits. She is truly amazing and i hide that signed copy! I cant shout before my friends tell me stories about it.

Eventually found it in some library … spent the whole day in the library reading it 🙂
        Sigh… good times

@King Mufasa, you can get a copy from any of the Glendora Bookshop outlets or Terra Kulture if you are in Lagos.

If outside Lagos, you can buzz the peeps at Farafina/Kachifo and they’d let you know how to get it sorted.

All Ms. Adichie’s books are keepers!!!

Personally don’t think any of the instructors will mind but can’t say same for NB…they might have fears of it hurting their brand and with recent developments in the beverages market in Nigeria, all brewers are guarding their image jealously.
