“I’m In Love… And I’m A Dad.” Andy Cohen welcomes first child, son Benjamin Allen Cohen
Andy Cohen welcomed his first child on Monday night, Benjamin Allen Cohen, which he revealed on Instagram.
“WOW! This is my son, Benjamin Allen Cohen,” Cohen captioned the photo of him cradling his baby boy. “He is 9 lbs 2 ounces!! 20 inches!! Born at 6:35 pm, PT. He is named after my grandfather Ben Allen. I’m in love. And speechless. And eternally grateful to an incredible surrogate. And I’m a dad. Wow.”
Cohen first announced he was set to be a father during a December episode of his Bravo talk show, Watch What Happens Live.
“Tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science — if all goes according to plan, in about six weeks’ time, I’m going to become a father,” Cohen said.
Just days after the initial announcement, Cohen told his longtime friend Anderson Cooper that he would be having a boy.
“It’s a boy and I got to tell you something, I cannot wait to meet this boy,” Cohen said on New Year’s Eve. “When I was growing up and when we were growing up … I just never thought it would be possible, as a gay man, to grow up and have a family.”
He also added that he was very thankful to the “wonderful surrogate” that he was working with, and that at the age of 50, he’s ready to be a father.
Cohen held a pair of baby showers, the first in Beverly Hills, attended by Real Housewives franchise stars plus John Mayer and Jerry O’Connell. The second was held in New York, where he was joined by celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kelly Ripa.
Cohen has been single since his March 2018 split from Clifton Dassuncao, who he had been dating since April 2016. He opened up in an interview with Entertainment Tonight where he spoke about what qualities he looked for in a man.
“Someone who’s very independent, someone who has their own thing going on. Maybe someone who’s never seen The Real Housewives,” Cohen said, joking he wanted a Jewish version of John F. Kennedy Jr., who he jokingly dubbed, “Jew-FK, Jr.”
Shortly after Cohen revealed the first image of his baby boy Benjamin, he was showered with congratulations from several of his celebrity friends.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Bethenny Frankel exclaimed, “WOW XO Congratulations,” while The View host Ana Navarro added, “And Anderson is an uncle! I’m going to cry.”
Actress Sarah Paulson commented, “Sending you all the love in the world. That’s one lucky baby,” while supermodel Naomi Campbell said, “Congratulations @bravoandy You are going to be an amazing daddy to your bundle of joy Benjamin.”
Real Housewives of New York star Ramona Singer added, “Daddy!! So happy for you,” while actress Jenna Fisher said, “Congrats!!! You will never be the same! In the best way imaginable.”
Karlie Kloss, Busy Phillips and Rebecca Romijn also sent their love to Cohen, along with Billy Eichner, Laverne Cox, Gabrielle Union and Anna Faris.
