What They Say VII
In an interview in September last year, Sam Smith was quoted as saying he didn’t want to be an ambassador for the gay community. “I’m not trying to be a spokesperson,” he told Digital Spy. “It sounds awful of me, but I’m really just trying to live my life and write music about it.”
Thereafter, the break-out star told an Australian website that the comment was taken out of context.
“Of course I want to be a spokesman for the gay community,” the 22-year-old clarified. “I want to be a spokesman for everyone. What I meant was I don’t want to limit to just one community. I want to reach everyone, gay people, lesbians, transsexuals, straight people, Catholics, anyone. I want my music to hit everyone.” Sam also talked about coming to terms with his sexuality from a young age and the acceptance he feels from fans.

February 18, 05:30I totally understand where he is coming from. The thing is, he is already an ambassador whether he knows it oir not. He is inspiring many gay people to follow their dreams and live their truths. That is enough for us

February 18, 05:34I totally get him. He doesn’t want to be seen as an activist, he just wants to be a gay man who makes good music and his happy. Unfortunately he cannot be just that.
America is the land of political correctness, so you have to be extremely careful of what you say especially if you are in the public eye.

I do not think I can learn how to LIVE from him am just so impressed with HIS MUSIC but if it’s on LIFE for all I know he hasn’t passed the test of faith yet…so if it’s to follow his lifestyle as it is now when I don’t know him as much…oh goodnes heaven forbid!!! But his music…yes…

February 19, 05:27Adam Lambert made a similar statement when he was an American Idol runner-up, especially as the gay community made a huge fuss about him not winning. It’s always the case, at first they don’t want being gay to be a blight on their careers, But later they realize that the “gay pop star” niche isn’t so bad after all.
