Lady Gaga banned from making anti-Trump speech during Super Bowl performance

Lady Gaga has reportedly been banned from talking about Donald Trump during her Super Bowl performance next month.

The gay icon is set to perform the half-time show at the sporting event on February 5 in Houston, Texas.

A passionate supporter of Hillary Clinton during the election, the singer has been outspoken in her criticism of President-elect Trump ahead of his inauguration tomorrow.

However, according to a report from Entertainment Tonight, Gaga has been warned by organisers not to use her performance as a protest against the incoming President. A source close to the show organisers told ET that Gaga was told she “cannot say anything or bring anything up about the election, or mention Donald Trump”.

However, NFL officials insisted the report is “nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none.”

A spokesperson told the outlet: “The Super Bowl is a time when people really come together. Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren’t going to be distracted by this.”

Speaking about Trump’s election previously, Gaga said: “What is very important to me is that the LGBTQ community in America knows myself as well as everyone else who loves them are going to do everything that we can to protect the social progress we have made over the last eight years.

“The truth is, political progress cannot happen unless there is social progress… Things cannot work unless people like each other, unless people are kind to one another. I am here to be, in any way that I can, a person that reminds us all that above anything else is kindness.

“We need to stay in a kind place and we need to bond during this time, and be as harmonious as possible, and intelligent in the way we approach this.”
