Ghanaians are reacting to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s indefinite stance on legalization of homosexuality and it is mostly negative
Ghanaian president, Nana Akufo-Addo recently sat to an interview with Al Jazeera and expressed a surprising lack of firmness against the possibility of legalizing homosexuality in Ghana. Even though he opined that legalizing homosexuality was not a pressing social issue in Ghana, he disclosed that Ghana’s stance on the issue could change if there is a groundswell of pressure for that to be done.
The president’s comment did not go down well with many Ghanaians who fear that President Akufo-Addo may lead a campaign for the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana.
The Lead Pastor of the Cedar Mountain Assemblies of God Church, Steve Wengam, made it clear on the social media that churches will resist every agenda and attempt to legalize same sex marriages, adding that the Bible is against the practice.
In a series of Facebook updates, Wengam posted: “Any Christian or Pastor who defends any attempt to legalize homosexuality is a BETRAYER of our faith like JUDAS.”
Expressing worry in another post, Wengam seemed uncomfortable about the silence of his fellow colleagues in the ministry who, to him, are “delaying in speaking against the suggestion that Ghana will certainly legalize gay marriage one day.”
The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Kwabena Opuni Frimpong also demanded that government state in clear terms the country’s stance on homosexuality. He said that like the late president, John Evans Attah Mills, President Akufo-Addo must be clear on his stance because as far as he is concerned the country will not accept homosexuality.
“He [late Mills] was very exact and that is what we want to hear from our leaders today or tomorrow. Maybe I didn’t hear him well, so somebody should come and explain to us exactly what the policy direction of this government is as far as same-sex marriage is concerned, it will help us,” he reportedly said.
Ghanaian rapper, Emmanuel Botchwey aka Kwaw Kese also came out to kick against the issue with a series of tweets.

Make una go rest abeg. You want freedom to practice what you believe in yet deny others that same right.
Bloody hypocrites!

December 01, 10:17Reading Canadian Trudeau’s moving speech, I realized that the liberation struggle is one that’s long and painfully dragged out. regardless, it’s only practical and reasonable that Africans begun learning from the mistakes of others that we may avoid the cliché of history repeating itself. History must have it’s villains, people must have a cause – once it was women, in some places it’s religion. Alternative sexuality has become the modern villain and everyone is itching to hitch on that tired old wagon. Such ignorance in modern day earth is simply appalling!

December 01, 10:51I wonder why it’s easy for religious people to imagine that a country/the world is theirs to rule!! This flawed perception is the reason for Gboko Haram and Fulani massacres that haunt us till today! It is a free world….; is supposed to be!
Religion is supposed to be a personal journey! If you try to convince one on it and they refuse, relax and know you tried. Not forcing people! At the end of the day, what’s God’s job again?
