Fans are convinced Elsa is a lesbian as Frozen 2 trailer drops
Elsa fans are convinced that the Snow Queen is coming out as a lesbian, after Disney dropped a new Frozen 2 trailer during Pride month.
The teaser, released on Tuesday (June 11), shows Elsa on a quest to find out more about her ice powers.
“Elsa, the past is not what it seems,” a voice tells her. “You must find the truth.”
“The truth is you’re a lesbian,” quipped one quick-witted Twitter fan.

Another wrote: “Elsa’s power ‘too much for this world’ is her being a lesbian. We get it.”
The 76-second clip introduces a new look for Elsa, which some compared to the colours of the lesbian flag.
“Elsa said lesbian rights with this dress,” one fan tweeted. Another simply said: “The gays won again.”

Many noted the timing of the new trailer’s release.
“Disney really just released the trailer during Pride month, Elsa is a lesbian confirmed. That’s just how it is, I don’t make the rules,” a fan wrote.

Fans have been campaigning for Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend since the release of the first Frozen film in 2013. Many fans interpreted Elsa’s journey of self-acceptance through a queer lens, with the Oscar-winning song ‘Let It Go’ labelled a coming-out anthem.
The voice behind ‘Let It Go’, Idina Menzel, has backed the calls to make Elsa gay. “I’m excited that the conversation is happening,” she told Pride Source in 2016. “I can’t promise anybody that that’s what’s gonna happen.”
Screenwriter Jennifer Lee left the door open for a lesbian plot line in a 2018 Huffington Post interview. “For me … Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us,” she said. “I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”

June 12, 08:27This is wishful thinking. These big studios would never give the gays what they want. Not with Elsa, and certainly not with this new Marvel heroes they’re talking about.
