DC Comics features a Superhero Gay Couple

A same-sex superhero gay couple will be headlining a mainstream comic book for the first time next month. Midnighter and Apollo, the leather-clad, ass-kicking team, will be back together in the groundbreaking DC Comics book. The Midnighter solo, written by gay author Steve Orlando, ended in May. He will return to write the comic about the superhero couple.

The couple has gone through a tumultuous time, at one point getting married and raising a super-powered adopted daughter, and got estranged. But now they’ve rekindled their romance.aut34

‘Midnighter and Apollo is the book we need right now,’ says Orlando. ‘Comics’ most iconic queer couple face down a new enemy and show us that we can never give in to fear, hatred, and evil—and they do it with their own brand of action-movie wit and punching.’

The new comic will be a six-issue miniseries.

‘It’s a knockdown, drag out, DC Universe western revenge thriller that starts kicking from page one!’

Midnighter and Apollo No. 1 arrives 5 October.

While this is a gay solidarity thingy, I’d av loved they made the guys established heroes and den spring the surprise on their readership. I hope this goes beyond its series in terms of continuity now its been revealed to be gay-themed.
