Miley Cyrus Does Not Want To Be Labelled

The media is continuing to report that Miley Cyrus identifies as bisexual – despite the star specifically eschewing the label in an interview.

The star revealed she had dated men and women last month, when she said: “There are times in my life where I’ve had boyfriends or girlfriends.

“I’m not hiding my sexuality. For me, I don’t want to label myself as anything.

“We love putting people in categories, but what I like sexually isn’t going to label me as a person.”

The star gave another interview to Paper Magazine this week, in which she said she is “open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age” – leading the mainstream press to label the star “bisexual”.Screenshot-2015-06-12-at-19.08.41Screenshot-2015-06-12-at-19.08.49Screenshot-2015-06-12-at-19.10.08Screenshot-2015-06-12-at-19.09.04

The Daily Mail, the Mirror, Billboard, and even other LGBT publications have jumped to incorrectly label the star as such. The press continues to make the claim – despite Cyrus herself saying quite clearly: “I don’t want to label myself as anything.”

In the Paper Magazine interview, the author notes: “She says she has come to consider her own sexuality – even her own gender identification – fluid.”

The singer has also said that she wants to be judged based on herself, not her dating life. She said: “It has a lot to do with being a feminist, but I’m finally OK with being alone. I think that’s something we have to talk about more: that you can be alone.

“There are times in my life where I’ve had boyfriends or girlfriends. And there are times where I just love being with myself and don’t want to give part of myself away to someone else.

“I think that’s a new freedom for women, especially. I don’t know that my mother would have been able to be 22 and secure in being alone. But my future doesn’t rely on having a partner.”

I think labels are our own way of simplifying the identification of people or things around us.

Labels in race, tribe, gender, sexuality, height, body size, religion, name it.

Labels ain’t going nowhere anytime soon

So you’re neither a he nor she. You’re like the gender non-forming human being that was on Mike Daemon’s podcast? And somehow, because you’re neutral, you think being Trans is not a label? Do you know what labels are?

Category, labels, term – same difference sweetie. All are used for identification

If you had just stopped at “I am ME” maybe you’d have some sort of argument/point

Professing to suicide attempt is not something to be proud of. It’s not an accomplishment, a star tacked on your award plaque. I’m saying this because this comment inordinately comes off as though you’re glamorizing suicide.

You don’t get to accept that you’re suicidal. That’s what I’m saying. It’s not something you find acceptable.
