The re-imagining your favourite Disney characters as trans
An artist in America has taken to reinventing famous Disney characters as their transgender counterparts.
Classic characters including Achilles, Pinocchio, Ariel, Jasmine and Tiana have all been given the trans treatment by the New York based art director.
Writing on Bored Panda, the artist explained that they adored Disney as a child. However, they felt that the company failed in diversifying its representation.
They said: “Growing up, I realized that they don’t include a very important category: transgender people. People who more than anyone else know the meaning of and seek for that love, freedom and transformation portrayed by Disney.”
They added that the idea to create the trans characters was inspired by the love that Disney promotes.
“So I asked myself: What if the most famous movies were to be told as a transgender story? What if they could use their power and following to help tear down the stigmas and taboos about the LGBTQ community?”
The outcome of those questions is the beautiful transformations that the artist is sharing on their Instagram. They explained that they are proud to use skills they use every day at their job to create the art.
“I’m using all I employ at my job every day – Photoshop and a design tablet – to (hopefully) allow for this happen. Or at least break the tip of the iceberg,” they concluded.
