Twitter reacts to Caitlyn Jenner’s outrage over Donald Trump’s trans military ban
President Donald Trump’s transgender military ban outraged Caitlyn Jenner, but Twitter isn’t having any of it.
In a lengthy response to the ban, Jenner said: ‘I believe every American should be outraged by the disrespect shown to those people wearing our country’s uniform. Furthermore, this half-baked idea puts all of our service members in harm’s way.
‘Mr. Trump; my allegiance is with them and our country, not you,’ she wrote in a blog post.
But it seems like Jenner’s longstanding support for Trump and sudden realization is leaving people with no sympathy for her.
In response to her tweet, one person just sent a gif: ‘Congratulations, you played yourself.’ Then he added: ‘Caitlyn sweetie we been trying to warn you and your privileged ass continued to vouch for him. I’m supposed to feel bad? I don’t.’
Another wrote: ‘Caitlyn was too busy kissing Trump and hardline Republicans like Ted Cruz’s asses to care about regular trans folk. What did she expect?
And one tweeted: ‘Everyone saw through his lie, Cait. Why couldn’t you?’
In her blog, she goes on to say studies estimate over 15,000 people currently serve in the US military. There are also 134,000 transgender veterans in the US. She cites sources to prove transgender people are more likely to enlist in the armed forces.
The study said: ‘Estimates suggest that 32.0% of those assigned male at birth and 5.5% of those assigned female at birth have served. By comparison, approximately 10.7% of adults in the US have served. This implies that transgender individuals are about twice as likely as adults in the US to have served their country in the armed forces.’
Jenner finished her letter strong, with a clear ultimatum to Trump on his military ban.
She wrote: ‘Over the past two years, I have met the most inspiring trans people, and I can testify to the trans community’s incredible resilience and perseverance in the face of enormous discrimination and hate.
‘We are strong, we are beautiful, and we will win.
‘The President must ask himself which side of history he will be on — and reverse his position immediately.’
