Is There Anything Happy About The Independence Day?
As you celebrate the Independence, remember that Nigeria is not free. Not really. For how can a nation be free when its people aren’t?
Remember the pain of those who have lost their loved ones in senseless ethnic killings.
Remember those who have lost lives and property due to the unchecked terrorism of a favoured few.
Remember those who simply want to live their lives as who they are but are constantly hounded by the very uniforms who are supposed to protect them.
Remember that there’s a law that exists to tell your fellow Nigerian that he has no right to live as freely as you do.
Remember that those in power are currently more concerned with securing their power than they are about pushing Nigeria to a true independence.
By all means, celebrate today. But always remember that there are many who are still shackled to the pain of being Nigerian.
(Happy?) Independence Day, Nigeria.

October 01, 09:38Frankly, there’s nothing to celebrate. I’ve replied every “happy independence day” message i received with “what exactly is happy about it?”
Nigeria is a hopeless 58 year old with no structure or direction. And this is coming from someone who’s usually happy to come home to naij a few times per year at every chance i get. There really is nothing to celebrate as a country.
The only thing worth celebrating are the Nigerian people who struggle to survive each day despite the insanity that is their environment.
