Pamela Adie talks about raising her children sans religion

In a Facebook post, LGBT rights activist and co-founder of The Equality Hub Pamela Adie penned her thoughts on how she would raise her children. And her parenting will involve no mandatory Sunday schools.

Check on it.

“When my partner and I have children, we will not raise them to follow any particular religion. What will be of utmost importance to us is raising human beings that are conscientious, kind, empathetic, emotionally intelligent, etc.

“When they go to school, they will not learn Christian Religious Knowledge, or Islamic Religious Knowledge, or any other religious teachings. They will be taught how to solve problems in their community and the world by using their hearts, brains and scientific evidence.

“They will learn how to treat others the way others want to be treated. They will learn that diversity is strength, and that it is OK to be different. They will learn to push boundaries. They will know how to LOVE and not be afraid to be vulnerable.

“They will learn how to be human FIRST.

“Then, when they are adults, they can choose if religion is something they really care about.

“I wish my parents gave me this opportunity.”

While this post, whilst getting severally shared, was met with praise and approval, a few people on the social media had some things to say that varied from the Adie’s intended parenting style.

What do you think? If you had kids, how would you raise them? Let us know in the comments.

My children will have a balanced view of the subjects. I’ll support whatever path they will choose to toe but humanity will be the bedrock of all actions.
