Lil Nas X Hoped Being Gay Was A Phase And Prayed For His Feelings To Go Away
Lil Nas X has admitted that he hoped his homosexuality was a phase and “prayed” for his feelings to go away.
The Old Town Road rapper – who announced he was taking a break from music – came out at the end of Pride month this year after feeling “compelled by the universe”.
But now, while speaking to Gayle King on CBS’ This Morning, the rapper – whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill – revealed he prayed for his feelings to go away.
He said: “I knew. Especially around my teenage years, I was just like, you know, praying, praying, praying that it was like a phase. Yeah, go away. I mean ‘cause me being in this position, it’s easy for me, but, like, some little boy, 10 miles from here, it’s not going to be good for him.”
When asked whether he thought he has inspired other struggling with their sexuality, he said: “I think it’s gonna always help, you know, it’s gonna. But you still have a long way to go. You know, someone who’s like, listening to me in school right now, it’s like, ‘You gay cause you listening to him’.
“There’s still a lot to be done of course, but I do believe it’s helping.”
