Angelina Jolie Encourages ‘Being Different’ During Kids Choice Award Speech
Yes, the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards are still happening, and Angelina Jolie is proving that they’re still relevant.
On Saturday, after the actress won the award for “Best Villain” for her role in Maleficent, she gave a truly stirring speech that children, and adults for that matter, everywhere should take to heart.
“I want to say that when I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different. And I felt out of place, and too loud, and too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. And then one day, I realized something – something that I hope you all realize: Different is good. So don’t fit in, don’t sit still, don’t ever try to be less than what you are. And when someone tells you that you are different, smile, and hold your head up high and be proud. And, as your villain, I would also say, cause a little trouble – it’s good for you.”
Jolie was escorted to the award show by – who else? – her children. Zahara and Shiloh looked more excited than anyone else that their mom had won the coveted orange blimp, and her speech has other mothers, famous and unknown alike praising her. Katie Holmes, at the premiere of her new film, Woman in Gold, told ET, “I’m such a fan of Angelina. I think she’s incredible in all aspects of her life. I think she’s just an inspiration. And her speech just, you know, topped it off.”
Jolie may have been recognized for best villain, but she delivered a heroic message – watch her speech below.

April 05, 05:34Being different for the fun of it is the worst disservice anybody can do to himself. Being different out of conviction is beautiful, heroic and good. When the world starts celebrating “villains” it sure calls for concern.”cause a little trouble, its good for you”. I wonder what good trouble can ever bring except if she is coming from the point that war is an inevitable panacea for peace. I fear for today’s kids. So much distortions flying around.

April 05, 06:46Being different is not always good. We need to define the kind of ‘different’ we are talking about. If you have a bad attitude and people complain about it, I think you need to change. There are somethings that are not good and if it is within your power, you need to try as much as possible to change.
Except, the speech was targeted at the LGBT community….

April 05, 08:10Please ya’ll should get over yourselves.. Understand the meaning of something before making a comment. Some kids are made fun of in school and always have hard time fitting in, because they’re considered different, or weird. Thats the different she’s talking about. In the eyes of society, gay people are considered different, awkward, weird.
You don’t like soccer- you’re different
You’d rather play Beyonce’s song than Trey songs– super weird
You like wearing bright colors- Different
I love her to bits.. She’s an inspiration to this generation. Bless you Mrs Pitt..

April 05, 10:50Thanx babe, i knew you’d put it in clear perspective, the capacity of some people to manufacture issues where none exists is amazing … i guess its a dinosaur thing …. sigh

April 05, 12:11Get over your high horses (or dragons in your case) Khaleesi.. People can see issues differently and commune their opinion just as They deem fit.. You don’t have make a mill out of nothing. We all don’t see things the same way.

April 05, 10:39Some human differences are amusing, weird, funny and noticeable. Some differences in humans are worth emulating and some mba, no way, bad role models to copy , only attracts negativity. I wonder if a dude is allowed to go and see Beyonce performing as in a concert.. without feeling different. ,let me run along….

April 05, 10:48I watched that speech o!actually,my first time of catching the #NKCA. Angelina Jolie always has dis bearing of a very down-to-earth queen…

April 05, 12:21Being different in a fun way is goOd.. Being different in some evil twisted way isn’t.. Pedophiles anyone? Not all “being different” is good.. We have to draw a line..Gad has said it all.. But I’ll say in this situation Jolie was talking about the kids being bullied in school for beingn girly or being fat or being a nerd.. Just as Max said. So that was a welcoming speech.. But sadly that’s just were it stops.. I doubt if these speeches actually make any difference.. Kids will always be Naughty, there will always be a bully somewhere.. So it’s just a sad sad situation.
That said
It’s funny how being “Different” is celebrated on here today.. When people with “different” opinions from the general populace on here are constantly bashed by the so called Police of the blog or FBI (Federal Bitches Institution) if you like
