Azealia Banks, Iggy Azalea puts Beyoncé on blast over ‘Lemonade’

While many celebrities, including Demi Lovato, Uzo Aduba and Anna Kendrick, praised Beyoncé’s album and visual project, Lemonade, others in the industry didn’t take to it so well.

Rappers Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea slammed Beyoncé for certain aspects of her sixth studio album, taking to Twitter to voice their concerns.

Banks attacked the Freedom hitmaker, calling her “anti-feminist”, a “poacher” and a “thief”. She took to Twitter and Periscope to criticize Beyoncé over her new release, which she unveiled on HBO late last week. Banks said the Destiny’s Child star was perpetuating the “heartbroken black female narrative”, calling her “stupid” for “crying over a man”.AB3

In later tweets, she accused the star of stealing ideas from other artists, calling her a “poacher” and a “thief”.AB4AB5

All of this comes despite Banks praising the release at first.

The lyrics in Lemonade sent fans abuzz since its release Saturday night. One line in particular from the track “Sorry,” in which Beyoncé sings, “He better call Becky with the good hair,” sent fans on a manhunt to find “Becky.”

One fan took it a step further, calling rapper Azalea a “Becky.” Azalea did not directly criticize Lemonade, but she did address her concerns over the “Becky” comment.

“Don’t ever call me a Becky,” the rapper tweeted in response to the fan. “Generalizing any race by calling them one stereotypical name for said race. I personally don’t think is very cool, the end,” she tweeted to another user.twit

Azaliea wasn’t even criticizing. Criticizing suggests a level of intelligence which the woman lacks. She should not go and dust out her career, let her be there bellyaching at every slightest opportunity. Bitch!

One thing the Hives need to do, is to invest more in comprehension lessons instead of getting ahead of themselves. Iggy never dissed Bey. I didn’t know until yesterday, that “Becky” is actually a racially derogatory word, used to stereotype white girls. The same way “Shinaynay” or “Sheniqua” is used for black girls to indicate that they are ghetto, uneducated and ratchet. She was just asking not to be addressed with such a term when someone call her “Becky”, because it a racially derogatory word.

As for Banks, I see no lies there. Unfortunately she is more known as the girl with diarrhea of the mouth. So taking her seriously is just a waste of time. She has pretty much attacked almost all the “who is who” in the industry at this point. So I don’t really take her seriously. She should get help and resolve her anger issues, as well as focus on pushing her music. She does make good music though, but her mouth and attitude is just aweful.

“Becky” is not a racial slur.

Just because Wendy “I wanna be white” Williams and Iggy “I wanna be black” Azalea say it is, doesn’t make it so.

Its an insult, not a racial slur

Explain what part of Becky is “racially derogatory” in the way Beyonce used it. When Plies released a song called Becky years ago about hot white girls where was this vexation?

Beyonce’s album is about heartbreak, redemption and a collective struggle seen through the eyes of one black woman. Those poems by Warsan Shire are poignant and deep. How does it make sense to agree with an argument that says talking about a struggle is contributing to it? What about the fact that she works through the album in stages from anger till she gets to forgiveness? Besides that, what socially conscious function has Azealia’s music contributed to black women’s culture? I’m a fan of her music and I’m actually listening right now because I love her style of rap, but I see no reason why she should be talking about someone not doing enough for black women/culture when she’s done zero herself.

Lmao! Are you aware that Azealia released a single in the middle of her twitter rant? Bloody ant. That’s why her career would never go past shooting green room and college dorm hallway videos. As for Iggy, she better sit her false hips down somewhere. If last year taught her anything, it should be to shut up and make music. If the Beyhive face her, she will never recover.
