“Behind every female icon is a gay man.” – Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has paid tribute to her gay fans, saying she wouldn’t be where she is today without them.

Speaking at a press conference for A Star Is Born at the Toronto Film Festival, Gaga said, “I really wouldn’t be here without the gay community, what they have taught me about love and acceptance and bravery.”

The Joanne singer furthermore added: “I make a joke sometimes, behind every female icon is a gay man.”

Gaga has won rave reviews for her role in the Bradley Cooper co-starring and directed musical, A Star Is Born. The singer plays the role of Ally in the film, a character previously portrayed by Barbra Streisand in the 1976 version. The role was of course originated by Judy Garland in the first movie version, released in 1937.

Speaking at the press conference about Cooper, Gaga said, “I think Bradley is an incredible filmmaker. I have acted before, but I’ve never been the lead actress of a feature film. Every day on set was such a thrill to watch him work. You can see the gears turning while he’s working even when he’s in character.”
