Caitlyn Jenner is slammed by trans activist, Carmen Carrera
The rift between Caitlyn Jenner and transgender women of color continues to grow.
On Tuesday, the same day Caitlyn Jenner was featured in an extensive Broadly profile, transgender model Carmen Carrera slammed her on Instagram. In a long post, Carrera described her attempts to befriend Jenner, only to be met with radio silence and rudeness.
The former Drag Race contestant and trans activist took to Instagram to share a portion of a text conversation with Caitlyn Jenner, along with a heated account of what happened next.
“Hey it’s Caitlyn we need to talk,” Jenner initially wrote to Carrera. “Instead of putting negative things out in the press, about me, which hurts what I’m doing, you should be aware of what I’m actually doing. Call me and I’ll give you an update.”
Jenner’s note refers to an interview Carrera gave to TMZ in which she spoke out against Jenner being honored at an event for her work in the transgender community, urging her not to get caught up in the distraction of her celebrity. Carrera’s comments were not actually negative or mean-spirited. Carrerra was really asking that Jenner make herself and her resources more available to the many unsung heroes fighting for the trans community.
In the text Carrera shared on the now deleted post, she responded: “Although I’m happy someone has knocked some sense into you, please don’t forget about how I came to you with ideas of moving this movement outwards and you said you’d help but you never did. If you’d like to have dinner to apologize and make it up to me, lets do it. Less talking, more doing.”
That was when Jenner reportedly went radio silent.
Carrera says she then contacted Sophia Hutchinson, who is close with Jenner, to ask what was up. And that led to this exchange:
“A bridge? A bridge would entail having a connection between both sides. Cait is a flake,” responded Carrera.
Carrera posted all the texts to Instagram, along with a detailed account of the context:
“Listen, I have a very outgoing personality, especially when I care about someone. I met Caitlyn Jenner at her house in Malibu when she first transitioned. I gifted her an amazing gift basket with sentimental things to get her through her transition, never asked for a photo or even for a spot on her now cancelled reality show because I wanted to show that I genuinely cared and wanted a friendship with her to help her grow. Sisterhood.
“I made myself very available (even offering my advice on how to feminize her living space when I was asked by her production managers because she didn’t know). I also asked if she wanted to help me spread equality throughout Latin America because I knew it was a big job I couldn’t do alone.
“What I found was this lady’s ego is way too big for no reason and she’s the most selfish person I’ve ever met. She even told me to my face that she “wanted to be #1”, whatever that means. Doing humanitarian work means you have to actually be a human.
“Honestly, what does she actively do everyday for trans folks? And why does she take credit for what real activists are doing? Who even is she?.. A retired athletic hero turned background reality star, who is now stealing credit from the already disenfranchised trans community all for her own public benefit?
“God please protect me because I know I got that east coast mouth when I gotta speak the truth. I cant stay quiet anymore and I refuse to kiss someone’s butt or fear someone else especially when I can see right through the bs.
“@caitlynjenner if you want to be a real hero, run a few triathlons and donate the money to these LGBTQ organizations who really need it. Be active with us, HUMBLE YOURSELF and let your “celebrity” take a backseat.
“Be who you really are instead of who you think you need to be to gain more popularity. I will not let you take advantage of my people. Also, since you’re too much of a coward to communicate, please do not send your sidekick to handle your dirty work. She’s just as fake as you are. @hutchins_sophia”
Carrera is not the first transgender woman of color to publicly admonish Jenner.
In August last year, Ashlee Marie Preston, a Black trans woman and former editor of Wear Your Voice, confronted Jenner about her support for Donald Trump at an LA LGBT Center event featuring the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. Preston uploaded the video onto Facebook. The clip went viral.
“You’re a fucking fraud,” Preston says to Jenner in the video. “It’s really fucked up that you continue to support somebody… that does everything with the military, that’s erasing our fucking community. And you support it.”

May 25, 07:28This Caitlyn Jenner is about as problematic to the US trans movement as Bisi Alimi is problematic to the Nigerian gay activism. Both of them say they are doing something, but we are not sure exactly what it is they are doing.

May 25, 07:51Someone needed to say it. Someone needed to call her bullshit. However, I can’t help but feel like this is another one of those activists who wanted to “blow”, wanted popularity, saw Caitlyn Jenner as a way to get it and is a little upset that it didn’t pan out.
Caitlyn Jenner has been a bigger distraction than help for the Trans community and someone needed to call her out on her bullshit.
This, however, there’s something about this that doesn’t add up.

May 25, 08:47Lol. But how can a trans person call out Caitlyn Jenner without getting tarred with the suspicion that he or she wants the spotlight on himself?

May 25, 15:37I have known Carmen since her Drag Race days, before she transitioned and she isn’t the fame whore type as you insinuated; she’s actually doing well for her self in the club scene. Caitlyn is just an old hag/bully who feels everyone is a pawn in her game/ scheme of getting bigger than the Kardashians; who are supposed to be her family.
FAKE humanitarian activists everywhere…Its all politics and deception in those circles, just ask Bisi Alimi who met Caitlyn and they got along just fine.
