Donald Trump lashes out at Meryl Streep following her Golden Globes speech
Sunday night’s must-see moment at the Golden Globes had to be Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech upon receiving the Cecille B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.
The actress used the time to call out Donald Trump’s impersonation of disabled reported Serge Kovaleski, who suffers a congenital joint condition:

Since the speech aired, the world’s been waiting with bated breath for Trump’s reaction — which finally arrived yesterday morning in a rambling series of Tweets that are as ludicrous as you’ve come to expect:
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a…..

Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him…….

"groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!

While Streep’s speech was largely celebrated and widely shared after airing Sunday night, there were still a handful of detractors like Meghan McCain and Laura Ingraham:
This Meryl Streep speech is why Trump won. And if people in Hollywood don't start recognizing why and how – you will help him get re-elected
— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) January 9, 2017
Actress Meryl Streep uses her Lifetime Achievement Award speech to bash @realDonaldTrump. How imaginative! How creative!Yawn.

You got to love watching leftist Hollywood actors who don't live in reality lecture us on politics. #GoldenGlobes #MerylStreep
— Jack Murphy (@RealJack) January 9, 2017
Disappointed #MerylStreep turned her #lifetimeachievementaward into anti#Trump speech. Bad taste and disrespectful. Get over it Hollywood.

Meanwhile, Twitter lit up with hundreds of people praising Streep’s speech:
"When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose" thank you #MerylStreep #GoldenGlobes

If u didn't like/love #MerylStreep's speech tonite, u lack empathy: which is a nice way of saying you're not a decent person.#GoldenGlobes

We have a serious problem when someone encouraging us to be kind and empathetic is seen as a political statement. #GoldenGlobes #MerylStreep

Thank you Meryl Streep. Bravery, poise, eloquence, and speaking for many rather than just for herself, and for what is right. #GoldenGlobes

January 10, 08:08Trump wasn’t mocking the man for his disability. Classic case of media running with a wrong narrative.

January 10, 14:21Video evidence of numerous other instances whereTrump made the exact same gesture to fully able-bodied people when attacking them exist. It’s just Trump being his silly self

January 10, 08:12I’m on fire with this first to comment thing. It is very clear that no one agrees with what trump did, but I can’t help but to agree with some of the things about tweeted. There’s a place to do certain things, and who’s to say that the award ceremony was the right place. That being said, that speech was really something. I at least know that I would use that quote in the future. If I was an American, I bet I would have cried

January 10, 10:34I think the Golden Globes was as right as any platform for Meryl to give her speech. Think of the number if people tuned in, think of the reach of the platform, think of the reporting it would get (as it already has) as against her calling, say, a private press conference. In her shoes I would do the same.

If this man hasn’t gotten into office yet and is already this insane, I shudder to think what the world would be in the next 4 years.
