Kito Scum, If You’re Reading This, Give Me Some Credit Please. I’m Not Dumb.
On the Kito Diaries Facebook page is attached a phone number through which KDians who have no patience with emails or inbox messages can call me directly to speak to me on whatever issues they want to get across to me. Through this medium, I have been able to interact with several members of the community on matters relating to their kito experiences, the stories they want to tell and the seeking of information regarding various LGBT issues.
It would seem as though there are also others with dubious motives who are attempting to use that number to get to me.
And their tactics so far have been a source of great amusement to me.
In the past several days, I have been getting calls on a Restricted Number, some of them flashes and some others who start talking and then hang up when they hear the impatience in my voice.
Finally, someone stayed on the line long enough for us to have a conversation yesterday that went something like this:
Me: Hello, who is this?
Him: Hello, my name is Teni.
(At least, I think that was what he said, because he was very soft-spoken and I couldn’t make out what he was saying half the time.)
Me: OK, Teni, what can I do for you?
Him: I would like to come and see you.
Me: Excuse me?
Him: I would like to meet you.
Me: Meet me why?
Him: Because I like you.
Me: Where did you get this number from?
Him: From Facebook.
Me: Do you know me?
Him: Yes.
Me: How do you know me?
Him: From a post you made on Facebook.
Me: What post is that?
Him: A picture of you.
(Highly doubtful, seeing as the only place on Facebook where he could have gotten this number would be from the Kito Diaries Facebook page. But okay.)
Me: And who made this post on Facebook?
Him: You.
Me: You said so before. What I mean is, what is the name of the Facebook account that made the post?
Him: Your name.
Me: What name is that?
Him: Look, I just want to come over.
Me: Come over where?
Him: To see you.
(This phone conversation was happening around 10.30 PM.)
Me: You want to come see me at this late hour?
Him: I don’t mind.
Me: (supremely over this now) You know what? Do me a favour and stop calling this number.
Before this Restricted Number took to calling me, there were text messages to the same number, wanting to meet me, wanting me to invite them over to my place, saying they got connected to me on Facebook and giving Facebook profiles whose names I search to find out I have absolutely no connection to.
LOL.
Listen, kito scum, if you’re reading this and you’re one of those who are trying to get to me, kindly up your game. At least give me some credit. I have been doing this for SIX YEARS!
I didn’t get here by being stupid. I am not driven by a reckless sex drive. And when I write kito alerts, I practise what I preach.
If you’re going to try to get me, do me a favour and come up with something really, really good.

April 25, 09:13Sorry to hear this, but I think it’s not an unexpected consequence of having a contact number in a public domain. You appear to handling it well, so Kudos!

April 25, 10:47Your phone number can actually be used to track you.
Your voice sample can also be used to track your location .
And yes, such technologies though not commonplace in Naija, actually exist. .
That’s how the previous owners of naijagistlive were apprehended.
If you really truly care about your safety , you’d take that number out of there.
Anyone who can’t be patient enough to send you an email doesn’t really deserve your help in the first instance.
Someone like me , if I were a kitoscum , it wouldn’t take me 3 days to find your location with that number there.
Make motor no jam you for people wey no go even show for your burial .
Egungun be careful , na express you dey go. ??

April 25, 11:08I wanted to ask you why you had that burner number on the page. Now, your explanation makes a lot of sense.
Just, stay safe.
And keep doing the amazing work you do.

Oh the stupidity of this fellow! Why can’t he even pretend to be smarter (oops! Not possible)?
PP though, I just want to reiterate (cos I’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned here before) that some comments shouldn’t be allowed to exist.
P. S: You can block the number on your end.

April 25, 13:23Lol. I have learned to skip right past those comments. Much better to act like they don’t exist than stress myself with blocking them.
And it was a restricted number. I’m not sure how I can block it.
