Kevin Spacey’s new movie flops at the box office

Kevin Spacey, who awkwardly came out as a gay man after being accused of sexual assault by actor Anthony Rapp, may have hoped his new movie would save his career. The Billionaire Boys Club, however, pulled in a pathetic $126 on its opening day. The movie has also been panned by critics.

The Billionaire Boys Club is about a failed Ponzi scheme, where a group of guys end up murdering the investor and conman Ron Levin (Spacey).

John DeFore, of The Hollywood Reporter, said the movie was a “derivative bore, all popped collars, douchey bros and hand-me-down psychology, that gets its characters up to their necks in borrowed money just long enough to have it really hurt when the accounts run dry.”

The movie was filmed before any accusations surfaced against Spacey. Vertical Entertainment felt it should go ahead with the release because of all the other people who worked so hard on it.

“We don’t condone sexual harassment on any level and we fully support victims of it,” Vertical said in a statement. “At the same time, this is neither an easy nor insensitive decision to release this film in theaters, but we believe in giving the cast, as well as hundreds of crew members who worked hard on the film, the chance to see their final product reach audiences.”

Back in 2017, Spacey was still riding high on his successful Netflix series, House of Cards. And then, Rapp called him out for making unwanted advances on him when he was only a teenager. Spacey apologized for the incident, though he claimed he did not remember it. He also revealed, for the first time, that he was ready to live his life as an out gay man. However, others came forward with their own allegations of being assaulted by the actor; many were minors when the incidents took place.

Spacey was subsequently dropped from House of Cards. He was also cut from scenes in the movie, All the Money in the World, six weeks before its release. (Actor Christopher Plummer stepped in to reshoot all of Spacey’s scenes.)

Spacey has no known projects in the works.

Lol at this point, if they could take his 2 Oscars back they would.

How the mighty has fallen. Nontheless, he’s undoubtedly one of the best actors ever.
