Johnnell Terrell Speaks Powerful Words About all The Ways He Is A Gay Man

The model, who often shares inspirational messages regarding LGBT issues, took to his social media account to recite some incredibly powerful words on all the ways he is a gay man and apparently proud of it.

“I am a gay man, whose will is to live, not controlled by the ignorance or opinion of another human being…” he says. “I’m a gay man of respect, pride and dignity, living my life in the light of truth, not the darkness of rejection. Therefore what you think of me is none of my business and I will continue to live my life as a gay man.”

He acknowledges the privilege of being a gay man who lives in a society that recognizes his rights as a gay man. “I am a gay man, free enough to be in a country where everyone deserves the chance to live. Not die at the hands of discrimination, bullying, disrespect and mental abuse, of being misunderstood as a gay man.”

He is also a “gay man who has endured every storm, seen all colours of the rainbow, refuses to be apologetic towards anyone else’s rules, policies and judgments… a gay man who decided not to live my life hidden under continents, oceans or mountains, society objections, family expectations or religious assumptions. Instead I decided to climb my greatest potential, reaching peaks unheard of as a gay man.”

Johnnell, who has been in a six-year-relationship with his partner, Tyrone Wells, also pays tribute to his relationship, speaking about the kind of man who he loves. “I’m a gay man born to love … another man. A man of God. A man of love. A man of emotion. A man of substance. A man of purpose. A man of authority. A man of fears. A man of tears. A man of power. A man of success. A man of nothing less. Yes, a gay man!”

Check out the video of his spoken word poem, and the transcribed words below:

“I am a gay man, whose will is to live, not controlled by the ignorance or opinion of another human being

I am a gay man, free enough to be in a country where everyone deserves the chance to live

Not die at the hands of discrimination, bullying, disrespect and mental abuse, of being misunderstood as a gay man

I’m a gay man of respect, pride and dignity, living my life in the light of truth, not the darkness of rejection

Therefore what you think of me is none of my business and I will continue to live my life as a gay man

I’m a gay man who has endured every storm, seen all colours of the rainbow, refuses to be apologetic towards anyone else’s rules, policies and judgments

I’m a gay man who decided not to live my life hidden under continents, oceans or mountains, society objections, family expectations or religious assumptions

Instead I decided to climb my greatest potential, reaching peaks unheard of as a gay man

I’m a gay man born to love who I am and what I am – and yes, another man

A man of God

A man of love

A man of emotion

A man of substance

A man of purpose

A man of authority

A man of fears

A man of tears

A man of power

A man of success

A man of nothing less

Yes, a gay man!

I’m a gay man and you don’t have to agree with my lifestyle, you don’t have to hold my hand

You don’t have to accept the doctor, the lawyer, the producer, the business partner, the empire, the teacher, the writer, the scientist, the singer, the actor, the rapper, the hair stylist, the makeup artist, the journalist, the many talents that we are born to display everyday

You don’t have to like me, you don’t have to accept me

But you will respect me as a gay man whose will is not to be controlled by the ignorance of another human being

Therefore, what you think of me is none of my business

And I will continue to live my life as a gay man.”

Can I get a BIG AMEN to this!!!
